Pete Buttigieg is one of the best Democrats to represent on live TV

I've seen this time and again over the past couple of years but this morning he was on CNN's State of the Union with Dana Bash. Buttigieg is openly gay and the current Secretary of Transportation in the Biden administration. People were OUTRAGED that he took paternity leave when he and his husband had twins born who were premature and were dealing with health issues. This was during COVID and supply chain crisis so Republicans, homophobes, bigots, etc. were furious that he had the audacity to stay home on the paternity leave to which he was entitled. Yeah it wasn't the best optics but he completely deserved to do that and I supported it. Since then he has been interviewed on all manner of things including railroad derailments, toxic burns, the I-95 collapse, etc. He ALWAYS delivers the perfect answer. I've never seen him get rattled. This morning he and Bash discussed various topics but she also asked him about Ron DeSantis' most recent anti-LGBTQ ad that has been widely slammed by both Democrats and Republicans alike. (MAGA cult excluded) It supposedly "praises" Trump for being a supporter of LGBTQ and then positions DeSantis as further right and against those ideas. Bash asked Buttigieg about his response to the ad. His immediate response was: "I’m going to leave aside the strangeness of trying to prove your manhood by putting up a video that splices images of you in between oiled-up, shirtless bodybuilders." He then followed it up with: "And just get to the bigger issue that is on my mind whenever I see this stuff in the policy space, which is, again, who are you trying to help?" The internet has been blowing up about DeSantis' colossal mistake with that ad and Pete Buttigieg's incredible response. The guy is unflappable which is why I think we will see him running for president again in the future.

In my humble non US citizen opinion, I don't see a chance in hell a gay person would be elected President of the USA in my lifetime.

yeah well they said that about a black man and he won (Obama). They sad that about a woman and she won the popular vote. (Hillary) Anything is possible.

@NJChicaa you're right and I absolutely expected you to make more or less that exact comment. I don't think a black man or a woman brought into play (that much) very powerful groups in the US that'd absolutely oppose a gay person being President. Maybe I went a little far with "in my lifetime"...but certainly for decades. Your supreme court rolled back abortion laws to the 70's and according to the UN in 2022 they said lgbt rights were being significantly eroded by various states legislatures.

Here in the UK I'd say if the right party leader came along they'd have a realistic chance of being PM no matter their sexuality. We don't have the Christian right over here...well we do but they've no power...over there the religious Right are very powerful.

I remember voting for Buttigieg for something and then his name was removed from the ballot. Do you remember what that was for?

@NJChicaa Yes, that was it. I sent my ballot in; and then he was removed.

I've always liked Mr. B- can't spell his name. He sounds awfully decent to be a leader in this country, sad as that is.
