When Your Parents Embarrassed You

Do you remember a time your parents embarrassed you, on accident or on purpose? I honestly can’t remember a single time my mom embarrassed me, but I can remember several times my dad did.
I know a lot of you guys remember good ‘ol Blockbuster, the video rental store that Netflix eventually put out of business. When my dad would take me there to rent a movie, he’d always tell me I had five minutes to find a movie to watch and get to the checkout desk. Obviously, five minutes is not a long time, especially when you take into account the internet was not in many households like it is today, so I couldn’t research what was available. I’d be looking for something to watch, when from the other side of the store, I’d hear him yell, “Five minutes, Amber! Five minutes!” Except it was more of a bellow because he has poor hearing (his ear drums burst as a teenager), and while he knew he was loud, he didn’t know he was THAT loud.
Even if he had known how loud he was, he wouldn’t have cared. A few minutes would go by, and again I’d hear from across the store, “Three minutes, Amber!” At that point, people were looking around the store, so I did what any seven year old would do: I looked around for “Amber” too.
Sheepishly, I’d go up to the checkout where my dad would be waiting, wanting to sink into the floor. It’s funny now, but I was so embarrassed at the time. He continued doing that up until I got my license, and could drive myself. Looking back, he shakes his head at how impatient he was.
Any stories where your parents embarrassed you?

You sure are young.
Back in 1956 TVs were rare cuz they were expensive. The closest thing we had to anything near what a Blockbuster was used to be the Saturday matinees the base provided for us kids, mostly Disney cartoons back then.
As for me being embarrassed, not even, I didn't know to be embarrassed

I have too many to remember them all. The worst (and the more tender) was that my father liked to sing in the streets while taking me to school. He whistled and sometimes he got carried away. I walked fasted so that noone would know I was with him.

@AmbiePam I did retaliate back when I grew up and always was firm with my mother when she tried to teach me about bringing up children.

Your dad is pretty funny. But I think you are quite smart. You act like you were also looking for Amber lol.
For me the 1st time I got my period the duration was 29 days. I do not know why. I was 9 years old. I don't know why but she came to school and told my teacher (male) that I got my period and it's been 28 days.
That was so embarrassing, Not cool

It is interesting to hear stories of other's pasts....especially when you go through similar things. I honestly can't think of a time when my mom embarrassed me, so guess I am lucky lol.

Well, I was Daddy's little girl so I guess if anyone saw us playing in the park they would think it strange and maybe I would not like to draw attention to it but then it did not seem embarrassing at all. Now picture a tall 6 foot 1 inch guy and a five-year-old little girl. She had a handkerchief tied to cover his eyes and he was stumbling around looking for me and it was one of our favorite things to play in the park Blind Man's Bluff.

@AmbiePam the only way I could make him realize where I was, was by tapping him on the knee, since I was so small,

The clothes my mother forced me to wear embarrassed me. My mother insisted on mid-calf when the style was mini. I was totally out of fashion and made fun of it by the people in school. I'm not fashion minded, but I like to look like I fit in.

Sheesh. Both my parents have embarrassed me on certain occasions, though I would say it's mostly my mom who did. I have also embarrassed my kids several times. I guess it can't be helped.

None really, my parents weren't the type to be embarrassing really. They are quiet people. Well one time my mom was arguing with my dad in front of company. They never came back and it was to all of our detriment.
