There's a Tiger on the Loose

Not the four legged kind, but a tiger lily. Characterized by the black spots on the petals and the recurved shape. Of course as a child I wondered why it was not a leopard lily as tigers have stripes. I say it is on the loose because I thought I dug these up and moved them. They are right up against the foundation of my house. I do have one out front that I moved there. It is getting ready to bloom. Surprise, though, this one came up by my foundation again. I will dig them in the fall. This lily and all lilies are toxic to cats, but I have never had a cat try to eat one. They had rather eat grasshoppers.

I think I disturbed the soil and woke up some dormant ones. There are all kinds of bulbs in this yard and I would like to move some and help them spread.

I love those large tiger lilies. Butterflies do as well.

Oh, I love tiger lilies. Take good care of them as they're not as prevalent as they used to be (something to do with the proliferation of Asiatic lilies).

Maybe they cross pollinate with Asiatic lilies. The few Asiatic lilies I had have been smothered by my day lilies. I could just spread them all across my yard and quit mowing.

Very fragrant as well. Hope it does not hurt your allergies. After taking these pictures I had pollen spread all over my wrist.

@GardenGerty Thanks. These last few years I've learned that flowers can be looked at but not smelled unless I want to spend the rest of the day scratching and sneezing.

Most pets seem to have a good idea of what they can and can't eat. It's a very pretty lily. When you are digging them up, it's easy to miss one. When I dug my potatoes, I never ever managed to get them all.

I feel that way about my pets. If I had them inside they might be tempted to nibble out of boredom, but outside they seem to know what they can safely eat.
