Temu, not as safe as you think it is?

OK, it would be very hard not to notice all of the ads for Temu. They are here in mylot, they are everywhere online. People are talking about their bargains...but are they really bargains?
I am one to always do a bit of research if I even think about ordering anything at all from an unknown company. So I have done some searching, and I am thinking, just no, a big, big NO.
For one thing, often these are cheap imitations of something you see in stores. I have known friends who have ordered items that were beyond cheap, but they only lasted a week or two--jewelry, trinkets, kitchen gadgets, toys, etc. One friend bought 2 bathmats. They did not survive one wash--even though the tags said they were machine washable. My friend was upset because she literally had to clean out her washer and pick up all the little pieces of the rug that had fallen apart in her washer. Another friend ordered a vegetable peeler, you know, the kind we all have in our kitchen drawer. The handle broke off the first time she used it...I could go on and on. Yes, I do know some people who were pleased with what they ordered, although they seem to think the quality isn't there.
This is a company that operates to the US via an ''office'' in Boston. It is a legit company, but if you research, you will find out some strange things...
Via USA Today~
Temu isn’t unique in all the info it wants to capture from your phone, of course. Most apps out there want as much as you’ll give up. But considering its ties to Communist China, the permissions seem even more frightening to me.
Temu collects, among other things:
• The info you provide, such as your name, address, and phone number.
• Details you enter, such as your birthday, photo, and social media profiles.
• Your phone or computer’s operating system and version, your IP address, GPS location (if you allowed it), and browsing data.
So in other words, you are handing all of your personal info to them? It appears to be so. Maybe you don't care, that's fine. I do care, I am not going to pass out my info on purpose...the fact that this company no doubt has infiltrated so much information from our nation is frightening.
Do you research before you do online ordering, if the company is a fairly new one, or if, like Temu, it seems to good to be true?
Read the article, very interesting. There are many of them online.

I was not tempted at all. There are tons of stores that sell things just like this in the US...and I will not support this company.
It has also been said that the items they sell are very often made by forced child labor. I could not knowingly support that.

@MarieCoyle I wish we'd get ride of these disgusting teeth images. Repulsive. They'll probably quadruple now that I've dared to mention them.

@MarieCoyle I agree. They had this little wash machine tub I considered at one time for my travel trailer and decided it wasn't worth trying.

@MarieCoyle The one on Temu was very tiny. Probably no bigger than a salad spinner and could only wash maybe a blouse and under things. Something to use when can't get to a laundry or home when traveling. I am near my son's for another month so just go there for my laundry right now. I think I'll do a year in this RV and then get a place again.

I have heard others say the same. At least he didn't use his own credit card, that was a good thing!

Temu, like Wish and others like it are known for selling cheep knock off's. Most people who shop on those sites, either don't understand how things work in the real world, or just don't really care about the quality. I've never ordered off of Temu, but I have off of Wish. And, it's always been things I don't care about the quality as long as it functions.

I never tried Wish, or Shein, either. I didn't hear postive things, so I wasn't tempted at all. I would rather buy a good used item, or support local, rather than give my little dab of money to a company like this.

I haven't ordered from them because I have heard about the warnings (just like what you wrote above).

Some people seem satisfied, or so they say. I think these companies prey on people, then sell them stuff at a super low price to reel them in. And I have to wonder, do many people just order from these outfits and not even check them out first? Maybe I am too cautious, I just do. One of my sons is a computer engineer. He says never order online from a new company unless you check it out, or have someone do it. I have to believe he is correct.

I don't order things online. Pretty will order things online but she uses her gaming phone to do that so all they're going to get from her is what games she plays and the username/email that she uses for that type of thing. She doesn't use her phone to call anyone and doesn't have any location data on it.

@MarieCoyle I guess it depends on how much work someone wants to put into tracing it.

I have been told by a friend in law enforcement that no phone is untraceable now, no matter what. I have no idea if that is true or not, I am simply repeating what he said.

Yes, you are right. They can do unbelievable things now with electronics and computers, more than I can wrap my head around.

I don't trust Temu and would never order from them. I had one bad experience ordering from a vendor on Facebook; and now I won't ever order directly from the Facebook site. Thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention. Enjoy your day.

I've heard a lot about Temu from the reborn community people. But we don't have it here. And I am not a fan of anything that sells cheap imitations.

I don't think you are missing out on much, Toni. Smart of you to not want to buy from them, in my honest opinion.

I checked and rechecked different credible sites, and I will not change my mind nor will I be making any purchases from them.
