Rolling right along

When Bob went on an errand the other day he was looking for someone who would replace screens in windows. Did not find anyone in the area. I am sure someone does it still. Instead, Bob bought screen, spline, and a screen roller. I thought that meant he had done this before, but that was not so. Closest I have come was the summer I was nineteen. I worked in an aluminum products factory but I was never the screen roller. I cut and assembled aluminum window screen frames. We actually have succeeded in replacing one window screen today. Pretty good for us. I told him how, and showed him how to use the tool and he did a nice job. I like to have the windows open as much as possible, but do not like bugs coming in or cats going out. Over the years one screen got damaged when Bob locked himself out, and various cats demolished some others. We have two doors to do and three more windows, however the screening we have is too small for the two doors. It is two weeks until we get any more money. Gotta hold on to what we have. It can wait. And we can do smaller windows. I have a roofer coming tomorrow to give an estimate.

Aren't you guys clever to replace your own screens?!!! Enjoy your day.

We've done this too. It's a bit tricky sometimes but doable. We've kept the roller in case we ever need to do more.

I am very glad to hear a roofer is coming by tomorrow for you to get an estimate. As for your screens, I’d be pathetically lost.

I hope that you get a reasonable roof estimate.

At one house we rented, I replaced window screens. I didn't get the screens taut enough but they still worked. (I used to work in an aluminum window factory but I never did screens there. My job there was to cut the aluminum parts to make the windows... I'm glad you can replace the screens yourselves. Good luck with the roofer.
