I enjoyed the post @FourWalls did about James Stewart a few days ago and so I went on Google and read more about his life. I found some fun facts. One story I wanted to share. He wanted to join the military and fight for his country when it was preparing to enter World War II. In 1940 he received notice that he was number 310 of about 900,000 men selected for service. Now Stewart was six foot, three inches tall and weighed 138. That weight was just five pounds under the minimum of what you had to be for enlistment. What does Stewart do? He went home and ate abundantly then returned to weigh in a second time. This time he made it and went on to retire from the United States Air Force as a brigadier general in 1968.
What a guy, huh?

He also refused to get an “easy” job like working in Special Services or entertaining the troops. He flew 20 combat missions!
Thanks for the mention! Glad my trip to the Jimmy Stewart Museum inspired you!

It was a great walk down memory lane. I do love the older actors.

He wasn't real flamboyant or showy. Just a very mild mannered gentleman.

That's thin! I am only 5 foot 4 inches and so 'tall' or 'thin' is not in my wheelhouse at all.

While not a Jimmy Stewart fan something about the monotone of his voice always makes me want to fall asleep he seemed to be a decent enough guy and I can believe that. I seldom watched any movie he was the lead in with a few exceptions and I usually watched for another actor. It isn't even that I feel like he is a horrible actor but he just never grew on me as an actor but again seemed like a decent human which is a far better thing to be than an actor anyway.

I can understand that. There are other actors that are like that too. Like Alan Ladd for instance.
