Aha, to escape and sit quietly on the beach — that’s my idea of paradise. And to watch a really great beach movie that transports me to that idyllic summer place...perfect. So, let's see what films I choose this time to put our minds at ease, as we enjoy some ocean breeze. See if you agree if any of these beach flicks are worthy ones or maybe you can tell me some you liked better. Here is the 2nd installment of my favorite beach movies and a description about each film: 6. WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S -If you like a movie with a crazy plot, silly humor, and just plain stupidly hilarious fun you have to catch this one. It all starts when employees Richard and Larry discover a $2 million insurance fraud scam in their company. When they report it to their boss Bernie, he seems grateful and invites them to his beach house for Labor Day weekend. In reality their boss is the scammer working with the mob and he has hired a hitman to eliminate them for discovering his secret. Unfortunately for Bernie, the mob decides he has become the problem and they kill him instead. When the two guys discover his dead corpse, they decide to pretend he is alive instead of going to the police. What follows is a series of hilarious party situations involving Bernie, (a stiff dead corpse) being dragged about or posed by Richard and Larry to conceal his death. *What film gets your vote for the silliest, stupidest, idiotic comedy you've seen? 5. WHERE THE BOYS ARE -Girls looking for boys during spring break in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Fun entertainment mixed with a serious discussion about how far a girl should go sexually with a boy she just met. Quite unique for a film made in 1960. If you saw the film, you might recognize some of the actors in it; among them George Hamiliton, (Singer) Connie Francis, Paula Prentiss, Jim Hutton and Frank (the Riddler) Gorshin. ***Did you ever take a spring break to Florida. What beach did you go to? 4. CAST AWAY -If you're ever going to be shipwrecked you definitely want to have a trusty first mate like "Wilson the Volleyball" along with you. It was my favorite character (just kidding). Tom Hanks stars as a Fed Ex employee who becomes the only survivor from a plane crash, who is marooned on an island for years, and is forced to learn how to survive as he is unable to sail away and be rescued. Add in Hanks riveting near one-man performance in this film seeing him undergo both a physical and emotional change from his situation and you have the makings of a flick worthy of Oscar nomination. And then there's the question, will Hank's character ever return to civilization and reunite with his loved ones? *Have you ever gotten lost for a while? My little sister did when she was 3 years old. And on the beach too! And there you go, my 2nd set of favorite beach films... ***Have you seen any of these beach movies? What did you like about them? Comments and musings on my picks and movie questions always welcome, and of course sharing your own favorite beach picks are encouraged. Hope you can wait till my next movie edition featuring my 3 thru 1 selection... Looking forward to your reactions and discussing them! Some Source Info: Yardbarker, IMDB.com

I haven't seen any of these and I wouldn't bother with the first one. But I'd like to see the other two.

@dgobucks226 Connie Francis had a great and very distinctive voice. We watched Tom Hanks in 'You've Got Mail' last night.

@JudyEv Another good Hanks film. He has played so many different roles in his career. From comedy to serious roles.

Ha, ha! My dad always said I had a "warped" sense of humor sometimes, especially with slapstick comedy, so probably why I liked "Weekend at Bernie's." You would definitely enjoy the other two. Cast Away was one of Hank's best performances reminiscent of his movie Forrest Gump. "Where the Boys Are" (1960) was the Film debut of Connie Francis. Connie Francis retained a lifelong association with Fort Lauderdale. As of 2022, she still lives in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. She is 85 years old.

@dgobucks226 no matter what the volleyballs were used for even in I had the money I would not spend that on a volleyball from the film but I guess some people are just such big Hanks fans they will do anything,

@RasmaSandra Yes, some fans will collect anything as a keepsake or to sell for a profit.

I haven’t seen any of these three, although, of course, I’ve heard an awful lot about them.

Oh, if you get the chance to see them, they are really good, especially # 4-5. Bernie's was a silly comedy like Airplane. Not for everyone's taste. If you remember the singer Connie Francis, you might enjoy this interesting fact: "Where the Boys Are" was the Film debut of Connie Francis. Connie Francis retained a lifelong association with Fort Lauderdale. As of 2022, she still lives in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. She is 85 years old.

Ah, the beach is where it's at! Cast Away was a terrific movie. Hanks did as good a job on that one as he did on Forrest Gump. Fun fact: In both "Cast Away" and Hank's other film "Forrest Gump" he was offered a Dr. Pepper. (On the Fed Ex plane and at the White House.)

I never took a spring break trip; however, my parent ran a motel in Daytona Beach in the early 70s so I got to see all the stupidity of spring break up close and personal. Love Connie’s song “Where the Boys Are.”

I actually went to the Elbow Room where they filmed the lounge scene in Fort Lauderdale. Pretty cool! "Where the Boys Are" was the Film debut of Connie Francis. Connie Francis retained a lifelong association with Fort Lauderdale. As of 2022, she still lives in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. She is 85 years old now.

I've seen Castaway; and we've seen Where the Boys Are several times. I've never actually watched Weekend at Bernies's. At least I don't remember it. Enjoy your day.

Bernie's was a silly comedy like Airplane. Not for everyone's taste. Here are some interesting facts about the actresses in "Where the Boys Are." "Where the Boys Are" actresses Dolores Hart, Paula Prentiss, and Connie Francis (Merritt, Tuggle, and Angie) were born in the same year. They were 22 years old at the time of filming. "Where the Boys Are" was the Film debut of Connie Francis. Connie Francis retained a lifelong association with Fort Lauderdale. As of 2022, she still lives in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. She is 85 years old.

That was a really good one rebelann. A great performance by Tom Hanks reminiscent of his "Forrest Gump" role. Here is an interesting fact you might enjoy. One of the three volleyballs used in "Cast Away" was sold in an auction for $18,400 (USD). It was an item on the Fed Ex plane (in the movie) which washed ashore and became Hank's companion on the island. Probably to keep him sane missing all those years. Here is a trailer: You might be able to stream the whole thing on you tube...

Oh wow. Weekend at Bernie's was a favorite of mine and Dustin's to watch. What great memories this brought back. Thank you and good to see you! And Castaway is on my shelf now, I watch it on occasion and think of Dustin as well. Thank you for sharing these. Made me smile.

I'm so glad I gave you a smile! They were excellent movies Here are a few trivia facts you may not know: "Weekend at Bernie's" original title was "Heat Wave," but had to be changed when Motown wouldn't allow for the rights to the song. In "Cast Away" Tom Hanks didn't exercise and allowed himself to grow pudgy to look out of shape. Production was then halted for a year so he could lose fifty pounds and grow out his hair for his time spent on the deserted island.
