Tomatoes

Food prices have been rising exorbitantly in India and more so with tomatoes What used to cost around Rs. 50 per kilo are now sold at some places at Rs. 250 a kilo. Government has started subsiding and if you are willing to line up for tokens you can get them at Rs. 70 a kilo. I would rather spend and get my needs or just not buy them but would never stand in those serpentine queues for hours. What would you do? Would you join those long queues?

If I needed something, I'd get in the queue. But I don't even like store tomatoes so sure wouldn't line up for those, even if they were giving them for free. We do buy canned tomatoes but those are vine ripened before going to a canning factory.

You seem to have alternatives. I wonder why those people are standing in that queue for hours just to get cheap tomatoes. Waste of time

@DaddyEvil I have not checked and also I will never eat vegetables that are canned. I do buy tomato sauce though.

@allknowing Canned tomatoes aren't sold in India? We can get every type of veggie canned or "fresh" as long as you don't mind that some things are ripened artificially. (Tomatoes ripened artificially taste like cardboard. YUCKY!) Maybe those people REALLY like tomatoes? I don't know, otherwise. It's also possible those people in the queue can't afford to pay the high prices.

I’m not standing in a hugely long line for a tomato. I’d rather do without them.

The price really increased a lot! I remember you have a great garden and probably you can grow a little tomatos there.

I might. It depends on if I needed to or not.

Would you pay the high price or stand in a queue?

Once my garden cherry tomatoes are gone, I will eat only tomato sauce or canned tomatoes tossed over noodles. Loving and cherishing my garden tomatoes right now.

In the summers, we mostly use fresh homegrown tomatoes. I also chop and freeze a lot of them for winter and put them away. I always have cans of chopped tomatoes to cook with, which are excellent. I dearly love tomatoes, but I don't think I would stand in a line for hours to buy them. I'm sorry that is the only choice you have.

I would rather buy them at high price if I just cannot live without them but never stand in a queue You are well stocked.
