My Daily Pills

I have started taking some extra supplements each day to hopefully help me age better. I already take three prescriptions: Mirtazapine for depression, Pravastatin for bad cholesterol, and Levothyrox for thyroid hormone deficiency. Then I also take Vitamin D3 since I don't go outside and get the nutrients I need from the sun, CoQ10 for the brain help with preserving both structure and function and helps with the health of all tissues and organs in the body; Tumeric for help in minimizing inflammation that also has black pepper in it that stimulates hydrochloric acid in the stomach to help you better digest and absorb food, improves cholesterol levels, blood sugar control, and brain and gut health; Lutein for my eyes, and garlic which helps with the immune system, lowers blood pressure, has an anti-inflammatory effect, reduces the risk of cancer and improves metabolism and helps in weight loss. I am thinking of finding something more to help with my aging stomach and digestive issues. I have heard that aloe vera is good for this so I might find some form of that to take. Do you take several supplements besides your prescribed medications?

I take a baby aspirin every morning and Vitamin D3 but only prescriptions otherwise. (I recently got to stop taking Methimazole for my thyroid as it has returned to normal functioning.)

That is good to hear. So happy to hear your thyroid is functioning normally now. How does that make you feel?

@celticeagle It's nice, honestly. I'm not always sweating and feeling like I'll never get cool again. For years, I dripped with sweat if I stood still at 70F... Now, I handle heat better than Pretty does.

My neurologist told me to take Magnesium Glycinate to help prevent migraines, and my primary care physician told me to take Niacin to lower my cholesterol. I also take a multivitamin from One a Day, and Cinnamon to lower blood sugar. I don’t have high blood sugar, and I never have, but since I know high blood sugar can contribute to dementia, I take it anyway for my own peace of mind. I used to just put cinnamon on an orange, and get it that way, but I haven’t eaten oranges in awhile. A cinnamon dusted orange makes for a tasty dessert though.

I eat enough cinnamon rolls and such that I am pretty certain I get enough of it.

Seven prescriptions? I used to take more but one anti-depressant and a sleeping pill wasn't working.

@celticeagle I also have 3 more that I don't take on a regular basis...as needed. That's what happens when you get old!

Yes, it sure does. And we can't always get all of the nutrients we need in what we eat daily.

That's a lot of supplements, but it looks like they all have benefits to help you. I take one medication, Eliquis, for my history of blood clots. I also take D3, Calcium, and Bone Essentials for my severe osteoporosis.

It is a lot. I started by just taking the one for the eyes and then thought I should help out these other areas too. Only 8 all together each day. That's not too bad.
