And the Star of Our Vacation….

There’s no trip without the car, and let me tell you, the car did splendidly on this trip.
See the photo? With the tripometer calculating an MPG at 42?????
For a CR-V that’s rated at 28 city/34 highway/30 combined????
Of course, there’s an asterisk: this was for the tank I used on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, where the speed limit is 35 and a lot of it is downhill. (That means that some of it is also UP hill, so it should balance out.)
I never got under 34 MPH on the trip, and a couple of tanks were almost to 36 MPH, in addition to the star of the show tank there in Virginia.
Additionally, Bestill had a “birthday”: it clicked over to 70,000 miles on the trip.
A long trip means it’s almost time for another oil change, and the guy at the dealership will probably ask me what took me so long.
I’m thankful for a good, dependable car like that with great gas mileage!

Yep. You keep the oil changed in that thing and you’re not going to have a new car payment for a long time.

@FourWalls Sad thing is it needs a new catalytic converter to pass inspection in Maryland. Those things are ridiculously expensive. But that's where he'll be living when he starts his new job in DC.

They will do that. I had a Chevette in the 80s that got unreal gas mileage. I got over 50 when I was driving though the desert in New Mexico and Arizona.

@FourWalls Very nice. I've visited my daughter in Tucson. She refused to take me into the desert. I think she was worried about the roads being too tough on her car.

Truly blessed. They aren’t rated that highly, but I always drive with the “eco” feature (that green leaf that’s supposed to help fuel economy) on.

I am in agreement with you that your auto did run well during your trip to Shenandoah National Park.

Hondas are good cars. We've had quite a few Toyotas and one Honda. Now we have a Scion Xb (Toyota) and a Subaru Impreza. Have a good day.

Sometimes hard on the brakes but adaptive cruise control takes that strain away!

With all the driving that you do, I'm glad you have a dependable car too! It helps too to keep that car maintained well. When my friend got her first car way back when, no one told her she needed to get oil changes - yes, her engine got totally fried

Yeah, that’s the bad thing about trucks. You sacrifice the room at the expense of gas mileage.

I’m blessed. There have been times where I was afraid I wasn’t going to get to the Nissan dealership for repairs with one previous car. I don’t have that worry anymore.

I was under 30 MPG in South Dakota, but (a) I was going uphill and (b) the speed limit there is 80 MPH (about 128 KPH).

I tell them I’m not Jay Leno, I don’t buy a car just to park it in a garage!
