Located in Asheville, North Carolina it is the largest privately owned home in the United States. Home to the Vanderbilt family it is 175,000 square feet with 250 rooms. It took 1,000 men six years to build it. Built from 1889 until 1895 by architect Richard Morris Hunt in the chateauesgue style. Modeled after a French chateau in the Loire Valley of France in the 16th century. Frederick Law Olmstead also designed Central Park, designed the 8,000-acre gardens and grounds of the estate. It has 65 fireplaces, 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms, and 4 acres of floor space. It also has one of the most visited wineries in the States.
You can go to the website to learn about the Biltmore ghosts along with 14 other North Carolina paranormal encounters.

@AmbiePam ......The website says May and June are their busiest times. I try not to go anywhere in July, August, December, January or February.

I have heard about this place because I am interested in haunted places, I would love to visit that house and see it I can latch onto any ghosts, My only thought is why in the world even if you are rich would anyone want such a big house? I mean even if you sat in or used a new room every day things could just get terribly confusing and in year you might not even see any of the other rooms,

I would love to tour it, but when I checked some years back it was an outrageous price.

Yes, it's worth seeing. Hard to believe anyone ever really lived like that. So very large. In a beautiful setting. I've lost track of how many times I've seen it, once we went during the Biltmore at Christmas thing they have, Judy Collins was singing there. They really decorated the entire place beautifully for Christmas.
