So why do men ask women their age?

My friend recently separated from her partner. They weren’t married, so technically she’s single, but they have a child, and seeing ten years of being together suddenly go down the drain is just sad. Anyway, she’s moving on and now works as an online English teacher. Yesterday she sent me a PM asking why men ask women their age. So of course, I called her right away for some quick gossip. Lol. It turned out that during one of her lessons, a male student (in his 20s) asked her how old she was before the class ended. She’s in her 30s, but she looks young. I was like, Hmm… why indeed? I don’t know the answer either, so we turned to Google. But then again… should we really believe Google? Do you know why men ask women their age?

Some people love to ask stupid things. It is not always about age. I remember that once after a holiday a young man who dated one of my daughters wanted to know about lenghts and heights of the places where I went. He never asked me if I liked it, if it was beautiful or any significant experience I had had.

Nowadays age is not lady's secret any more,but still lots of lady mind saying age out.I seldom inquire a lady's age,possibly will get a refusal if i inquire.Who will bring up the pathetic kid,the kid no longer have a complete family. 10 years virtual marriage is valuable,i feel sorry they end up with breaking up.

Given that she may appear young for a teacher, I believe the student may be questioning. He may have posed that inquiry out of curiosity as a result. But, that is only my hunch.

Men ask women's age probably for the same reasons that women ask men for theirs. It's really hard to determine with 100% certainty someone's reasoning. Your friend could have answered, "Who's asking and why?" or "Who wants to know and why?" or simply "Why?". I think a direct counter to a direct question is the best answer rather than assume.

You know actually in our places there was a talk earlier but some are following it today what that is ... Men should not ask the age a Woman her age & Woman should not ask A Man his salary These are all just something like a belief

I don't think I've ever asked a woman her age. The only reason I can think of for the student to ask her age is if he likes her and would like to ask her out.

Some ask it for genuine reasons and other for stupid reasons. Also if someone is looking forward to dating, they would like to know. Here, I feel that the student might have asked it out of curiosity. Maybe she looks too young to be their teacher

Well in this case it could be "are you old enough to be my teacher?" or it could be "are you in an age range I would date?" But it could just be he opens his mouth and pointless things come falling out.

I’d say just curiosity. Some people think people who are very young when doing certain jobs aren’t qualified enough but they are wrong.

Oh yeah, I agree with the curiosity thing. I have a workmate who looks really young, with a baby face as they say, and really short too. So I thought he was somebody else's kid but it turns out that he's one of IT staff members

First of all I think older men want to know because they do not want to be accused of coming on to women who are very young and younger men want to be sure the women they like are not too old for them,

I wouldn't mind the age at all. But why do they ask? I guess for so many reasons but the number one would be that they want to make sure they are not duped by the looks.
