The lady In The Cloth Mask.

During the first months of the covid pandemic when everything was so uncertain, not much knowledge and lots of fear, l remember wearing a mask at home. I thought all of that was behind me - until the arrival of the dust nuisance almost a year ago , now l am back to wearing a mask in the house and l do not have to wear one when l go out. The problem is road works in my area which seem to have no end. There is dust on my windows, in my drapes, on everything l touch in my house, and my main concern is - what is it doing to my health? Did you ever find yourself in an upleasant situation and there seems to be no way out? How did you manage? Pixabay image.

There was a house near my parents that was really really close to some road work being done, and it lasted for months. Come Christmas, the house put a large sign in the front yard that said, “Merry Christmas from the dusty family.” I think they must have been experiencing the same thing you are. That must be pretty darn awful.

I am lucky that l do not suffer from asthma or other respiratory illnesses, other folk along the way have been complaining about those problems. I hope it is over before Christmas.

I hope they get done with these road projects soon!! We have that going on al over the area, but luckily it's far enough that particles don't fly here. One neighbor fires up a bbq close enough to the main windows that we always keep open . . . as soon as I see smoke or smell it, the windows get shut. Same with a neighbor on the other side who seems to have this weird oven contraption (he better not be burning trash) - again, we shut the windows. What seems to save us from headaches and such are air purifiers.

@Kandae11 I believe they can remove dust . . . but I suppose it depends on the filters, as the better ones supposedly also remove pollen, bacteria, and other allergens. Wow, you are very close to the road!

Do you think an air purifier could help with the dust?.Our house is about 5 meters from the main road on a slight incline and there are some trees in front -which of course no longer look green.

I’m still wearing a mask in crowded public places and dream of pre Covid days. I know that it gives me very little protection from Covid, but it has stopped me from catching colds and other viruses. I haven’t been sick at all since before the pandemic.

I'm sorry you need to wear a mask in your home. Once I took the mask off, it's been off. I hope I don't need to wear it again. I have them just in case.

There are times when l look out after a heavy vehicle has passed and all l can see is a cloud of dust in the air. Reminds me of the streets in some of the Western movies l watch.

I am glad that we are not close to a main road. There were roadworks 6 years ago, but no noise and dust reached our house.

When they were building all the houses in my community the dust was unbelievable. I never thought to wear a mask in the house. I have no ideas for you about keeping the dust to a minimum. Hope you find a solution

I will try to think of the good end result - a much improved roadway. I will try not to think of a bad end result - developing a respiratory illness.

One of my sisters is in almost the same situation. A subdivision is going up across the street from her house. Earth movers are leveling the land an cutting in streets. She’s terribly upset about all the dust.

It is awful , especially during summertime when the weather is hot and dry. The dust lands on everything that isn't covered.

All that dust can cause breathing problems. This would trigger my asthma. DC had smoke coming from Canada. And we were told to wear masks outside. Perhaps you can put wet towels at the window seals and at the foot of your door. Hope this gets worked out soon.

They are supposed to have trucks wetting the road every hour. We are lucky if it gets done twice a day.

Yes, I often do when there's any construction work nearby. I close my windows so that dust doesn't come inside the house.

@Kandae11 That's really tiring and irritating. The house needs fresh air after all.

I was thinking about it lately. I don't want to be forced to wear a mask but if I am in a very crowded bunch of people, I will probably wear one to protect myself against sicknesses.

Mostly I say to myself 'This time tomorrow/next week it will all be over' but that may not help in this case. The roadworks may go on for quite some time I guess.
