AI Got it Wrong

I wanted to write an article about a guy I met in a mining camp when I was a kid. He lived near us and we saw him from time to time. Everyone knew him. I asked the Bing AI to tell me about Riley George in Cookes Peak, NM. The answer started out okay but suddenly told me he died in 1936 in England. I was not even born in 1936. If I used this bogus information in an article, the magazine would probably never read anything I wrote again. Do you use AI for research? Has it ever steered you wrong?

Several people have complained that AI doesn't do a good job of checking sources and the validity of the information it uses... I've seen several videos made by AI that have non-avian dinosaurs still existing now.

@akalinus At least they just ate the beef and left you alone.

Okay, I wondered what happened to that chunk of beef that was in the refrigerator. There were dino prints in the butter.

No, I haven't even bothered with AI, I don't trust stuff like that considering it takes people to write those algorithms which is probably why it gave you bogus answers.

I was surprised by this this supposed information. I even have a picture of him. We also met a famous singer who taught us to make sourdough bread and sang his most famous song for us. Now, I am trying to find out the copyright issues with public figures who are deceased.

@RebeccasFarm Thank you. I have been looking at copyright issues but it is so confusing. I don't know if I could get in trouble for writing about this guy. He was gone already when I looked for him online.

I haven't used it but I've heard other stories about it going off on a tangent with wrong information. It seems you really need to verify what it tells you.

I had it write a story about a dream I had. It was okay but did not have any heart to it. I will never use it but I was experimenting. If I write for pay, I will use my own imagination and memories.

@JudyEv In article writing, it is important to get the facts right. If you can't trust the source, you need to verify with another source or sources.

@akalinus Our son demonstrated it for us and it can give a great deal of good background information and save a lot of research but you need to check that it's correct. I won't be using it either.
