Uh-oh Wrong Shift

I woke up at 4 today, way way earlier than my alarm. I snoozed and woke up at 5:30 and started doing my routine before work. Then I power walked to my workplace and manged to arrive 10 minutes early. Suddenly my colleague asked why I am there when I was meant to be working twilight. I checked my rota and lo and behold I was. Twilight starts at noon so I could have slept more. My manager said I can stay if I want as someone called in sick but I opted to go back home as I do not fancy working 16 hours

You cannot work 16 hours, that is too much. Better that you rest at home and take a nap.

That is the problem when your shifts move from time to time. I always have the same shift so I won't go wrong when I wake up in the morning. The only thing I would remember is the day if it still is a working day or weekend. I have certain days on a weekend that I wake up early thinking it is still a working day for me.

Yeah same shifts are better as you also can plan your activities.

@flapizHowever, because healthcare is required 24 hours a day, most of you in the medical field must be rotated as well. That is why I salute those of you who work in that field.

@rsa101 Thank you my friend. It is sometimes a really undervalued job.

Yeah I do 15 at max but that's doing documentation not doing full patient loading.

Sixteen hours would be a very long shift indeed. Did you take a nap when you got home?

@JudyEv Yeah I do not like the UK nursing hours. Aussies do it better in this regard.

@flapiz 15 hours is a very long shift but so is 13 if you're on your feet all that time.

Yeah I checked my rota so many times last week but I missed out the shifting. I am thankful for the extra hours of sleep though.

How often do you change shifts? That can be confusing at times. No, I don't blame you for working 16 hours - they are nuts if they even ask you. But good thing is that you have a choice not to.

Gosh! Still it's better than realising that you had missed your shift. Hope you got some rest. I find it really hard to go back to sleep once I have got up.
