Very disappointed in an Amazon delivery

The other day I ordered a lightweight, portable monitor to accompany my laptop so that I could dual-screen when working on my writing when we go camping. I was very excited to try it out when it arrived today. I was not happy to see the damage to the box it came in but maintained my optimism that the monitor would be okay. It wasn't. The screen was completely ruined. It started, and the laptop recognized it, but all that showed up on the screen was a fractal pattern starting on the spot where the screen must have been stressed by whatever caused the damage to the box. I immediately went on Amazon and filled out a return request with an immediate reorder of the same item. I also detailed the damage to the screen. Within seconds, Amazon provided me with a return code, and an order was made for a replacement to arrive on Wednesday. This next one better show up in pristine condition ready to work. I will need it when Son2 and I go on our trip to Kure Beach next week. How aggravated do you get when packages arrive but something is broken inside?

I have seen some of those Ring camera videos of Amazon drivers (as in your case), UPS drivers, and FedEx drivers just throwing packages on to porches or into yards. It is maddening.

@DWDavis Oh…Well, I’m glad the delivery driver didn’t turn out to be a jerk.

One of the first things I did was check our doorbell camera. The driver carefully placed the package on our porch. I think the damage happened somewhere along the line from the warehouse to the distribution center.

That is the good thing about Amazon. They rarely challenge returns.

It is not fun...several months ago I ordered something and it came with an empty box. Someone along the way had obviously helped themselves..It was easy to get a replacement though.

@DWDavis Yes, sometimes I have noticed if you get the wrong thing, they don't want it back.

That hasn't happened to me. I did once get a box with a plumbing part in it I hadn't ordered and that didn't fit anything in my house. It was addressed to me. I was never charged for it, and Amazon wouldn't take it back. I donated it to Habitat for Humanity.

Generally there must be a video during unboxing so that the goods can be exchanged, an honest shop will of course give us good goods without the slightest defect.

I took photos of the damage to the box and what appeared on the screen when I tried to use it, just in case Amazon asked for it. They didn't. A new screen is already on its way. As soon as I get it, I'll take the other to the UPS store and send it back.

The fact that I have to wait another two weeks (I live in the south so that's the maximum waiting time) is

@sol_cee The good news is that the replacement arrived today and it works fine.

Amazon recently built a huge distribution center about an hour from here, so wait time is usually only a day or two depending on where the product is coming from.

This is what happened in this case. Amazon is already sending a replacement and I will send the damaged unit back when the new one arrives and I am certain it will work.

I have not had that happen in a while, but I would react with a blend of frustration, disappointment, and maybe anger.

The situation did dull my excitement. I hope the seller replaced the a/c unit. The delivery company should never have delivered it in that condition.

@DWDavis They took it back the AC luckily. It was Walmart. I am always surprised they deliver things in that way.

I try not to get too upset. It is one of the chances you take with delivered items.

I have been lucky so far, I never received packages with something broken inside. I had a bad experience with Amazon when they sent me a table cloth in a different color than I ordered. They asked to send back (to Italy) and the shipping costs at my charge. Believe me that finally they paid me the shipping charges and credited what I paid for the table cloth. Irony of the sort, three months after, the wrong item came back to my address because "Amazon Refused it". Something is not working well in their warehouse there.

So, in the end, you wound up with a free tablecloth of the wrong color. Did you use it or make a gift of it?

@DWDavis Exactly, it was red, so I used it for Christmas adding some decorations and it did not look bad. To refuse to refund $ 25 (because of their mistake) they ended paying $ 40 and the item came back to me. Good management!

I was able to handle the whole thing, except actually returning the item online. Very simple.

That can be not only aggravating but also disappointing because you are waiting for the item you ordered, I hope your new package is not damaged.

I did receive a frame that had a little damage to it, but it was ok because the damage was very small.

Last year, K and I ordered inflatable kayaks. Hers arrived just fine. They sent me a used one in a makeshift box. I took a bunch of photos and contacted the seller to let them know it was not acceptable. They sent me a new one, which was what I'd ordered, and paid for shipping the used one back to them.

I have only had one item arrived damaged, and I've ordered a lot of household supplies from them. They sent out a replacement right away. All in all, my experience with them is a lot better than FedEx, or UPS, which both have a history with me in delivering beat-up packages or not even delivering them at all. Our US mail is not the best here, either. One thing I do have to say about getting Amazon, it almost always arrives in a timely manner, and when it's delayed, they communicate and let you know. I hope you get your monitor soon and that it is handled correctly.

Since the pandemic, we have used Amazon and other online ordering for much of our purchasing. Problems with deliveries or shipments have been rare.

@DWDavis It was so helpful to have it during the pandemic. You just can't beat not having to fight your way through stores, and having something delivered to the door.

I hope so. We planned to buy a second one for K if this first one seems to work out well for me. We both have use for dual screens and we both tend to work while we're camping.

That is maddening, although not that surprising I confess when you see the way some of these delivery people behave and the fact they are under so much time pressure. Luckily I have rarely had that happen, in fact I can't think of anything.

I checked our doorbell cam and the delivery person set the package carefully on the porch. It was damaged long before it reached his hands.
