She almost made it to 600 pound life, but she died before she got there.

Remember my neighbor who passed away a few months ago? She never left her home, ordered pizzas (yes, plural number at a time) every day of the world, to be delivered to her. Once in a while she added pasta to her pizza order, but the delivery guy came at least once per day, usually twice. She refused all offers of food or meals from friends and neighbors and family members. She only saw her daughters the last 6 months or so of her life. She died alone, and it took many people to get her out of her home and loaded up. Today, I saw one of her daughters, who is a nurse at one of the places I go. She thanked me again for my offers to help with a meal now and then. She tried to get her mom off of the pizza addiction, and she couldn't do it. She said it was just like her mother was determined to eat herself to death. Evidently, the woman watched that show, ''My 600 lb. Life" constantly. She told her daughter she wanted to be on there and be famous, because she was finally fat enough. Can you imagine? Her daughter discovered that this was her mother's goal and reason for eating so much pizza every day! She even contacted the office of the doctor on the show, to see how to proceed to get on there, and had an appointment--but she didn't tell her daughter about the appointment, her daughter found some mail about it. She couldn't fit in a car, hadn't been anywhere in over a year, but she was planning on traveling to Houston to see this doctor and be on that show. Am I alone in thinking that this is one of the weirdest life goals ever? She evidently wanted the notoriety that went with it all and was determined to get there. How very sad, she wasted all of that time on that goal. Her daughter said all she had thought about for the last several years of her life was food--pasta or, of course, her endless pizzas. Do you know of anyone who has a goal as ridiculous as this one? I am still in disbelief.

That is so sad. The only other weird one was the teenage friend pair who made a pact to get pregnant so they could be on that MTV show, Teen Mom. Which is pretty pathetic.

I had not heard of that happening, how sad and strange. So many of these shows just portray the participants as complete train wrecks, and I can't hardly watch them. You're right, it's pathetic.

@arunima25 I personally think many of the reality shows have ruined people's lives.

She probably would have been more famous if she dropped all of the weight and got healthy.

She apparently decided the excess weight would bring her fame, she was a huge celebrity worshipper. But yes, it certainly would have been better to just diet and lose pounds.

Oh my goodness, I do not know what to say. She was killing herself with food to be famous participating at a show. She surely had a mental problem.

@MarieCoyle - It is very possible that she had developed some sort of mental disorder. My sister in law (who was schizophrenic) after my brother divorced also started to eat and she became obese. She did not go out anymore and she only liked to see very few people. She liked my husband and I and we were among the few people she trusted.

Her daughter said that her father divorced her mother a few years ago. She said they didn't blame him, she had grown very strange and argued with everyone. They had her evaluated and hospitalized and it was decided she had developed some type of personality disorder? But she basically hated everyone. That's when she decided she loved to eat, so she would just eat.

@LadyDuck A person has to wonder just what makes people who do things like this, change and become someone no one can understand, and the person just doesn't seem to care about anything or anyone except the habit they have developed, in this case, food addiction.

That is so sad to hear that you neighbor had a goal to be on 600 lb. life. I've seen that show and my heart breaks for all those people. Life for them is food and yet the whole show focuses on them having to give up the one thing they love and go on a very restricted diet.

Many times, they have become addicted to food due to other issues they have that are untreated. Childhood trauma of some kind, bad relationships, and so forth. They seem to claim that food brings them happiness, so they just keep on eating, and eating some more. I guess food addiction is a real thing with some people.

@Marilynda1225 With costs and possible shortages, food addiction could get extremely expensive for some of these people. I thought about it...the really, really heavy people who just eat all day, bed-ridden for the most part--they can't work, so they get a food card and use that to buy all the garbage that they eat--endless sodas, chips, cookies, candy, Little Debbie cakes, and so forth. Nothing is worse for a person than a steady diet of all of that junk. And yes, it is definitely an addiction.

That is so sad. I don't know anyone with that kind of goal. I'm trying to get rid of my weight.

@MarieCoyle Thank you. I'm trying hard to be smart. Now that I have an app that has the calories on it for the foods I eat, it makes it easier. The pedometer app is good too. I get more than the goal for steps and that helps too.

I certainly don't want to gain back what I have lost. No way should that be a goal for anyone. Just keep on, Valerie. I know you are trying hard.

@just4him I think we just have to re-train our brains on what to eat, how much to eat, and when to eat it. It's more of a lifestyle change than anything else.

People can be strange and do all these kind of ridiculous things. It's weird. But there are many. I feel that there is something wrong with them mentally and emotionally. They don't realise that the consequences can be huge and devastating.

@MarieCoyle They get so blinded and shut down from anything happening around. They live in their own bubble. She made herself suffer while she was alive. It must be upsetting for the family and friends too.

@arunima25 Her daughter said she simply turned into a totally different person when her husband left. She stopped caring about family and friends, refused help of any kind, and just...ate pizza. They even put her in a nursing facility for some counselling and help once, it was a one month program, she stayed 3 days and signed herself out.

@MarieCoyle Hmm...I have read of eating disorders due to depression or other mental and emotional issues. She seems to be a victim of that. No sane and sound person would do what she did to herself. It must be a great suffering for the loved ones who really cared. Very unfortunate!!

@mariecoyle Some folk have little self respect and of course daft, irresponsible TV shows encourage it, leading people to find self worth in bizarre actions. Poor woman.

I can't imagine wanting to be that big by choice, Linda. Hard to do anything, and no life except lolling around eating constantly? No....food is fun and we all love good food, but once again, this is another example of too much of a good thing.
