With the end of the month and the end of the countdown, that means only means one thing: a new month, and a new countdown! And I guarantee you….this ain’t gonna go over well. I dedicate the countdown for October to our teachers, both retired (@DWDavis ) and current (@NJChicaa ). I don’t think this will bug NJ Chic much, because she teaches science; however, it is the principle of the matter. The theme for October…..the word AIN’T. Remember the old saying “Ain’t ain’t a word”? It might not be one, but the non-word word is certainly in the title of a lot of songs! I’ve picked 31 of my favorites for your dining, dancing, and grammatical cringing pleasure in the month. Ain’t we got fun this month!

When you have country people in your family, you get familiar with the word 'ain't'. Even if half of them are teachers/professors. Of course, even with my dad being pure country, my mom never let us get away with saying that word.

Bad grammar is commonplace in the south. “Ain’t” is the least of the grammatical worries.

@FourWalls Excuse me, there is a difference between bad grammar and dialectic vernacular. Ain't gonna put up with this puttin down of us southern folk. And that, my dear, is an example of the correct use of the word "Ain't."

We loved to irritate people by saying "ain't" when I was young. Now it hardly turns a head because there is so much more that is worse to say.

We could go into the destruction of the English language in songs, but then I’d have to badmouth “You Haven’t Done Nothing” by Stevie Wonder, and I just can’t.

Aint is a word because so many people still say it. Screw all those smart proper snobs, they aint that smart. I can't wait wait for this countdown, sounds pretty punk rock because we all know those fools do not know how to speak all proper.

@FourWalls Same difference I tell you all the time country and punk rock are cut from the same cloth if they are proper.

Ain't this gonna be a blast? Maybe after 'ain't' you could concentrate on 'gonna' which has just about become standard English.
