She's Home Now

My grandma did get to leave the hospital today, thankfully. Her sodium levels weren't up to where they should be but they are not dangerously low anymore. Last night I guess she did have an AFib issue and I think she said they had to shock her a couple times before her heart got back in to rhythm. To fix that issue she needs a pacemaker. Hoping she's improved enough that she'll be okay though. I guess my grandpa was upset that he couldn't go get her and bring her home. He's been using the walker...but I'm afraid he'll stop once my uncle goes home. My uncle knows how to force him to do things. But yes that's the update for now....

I’m surprised they let her go home after having to shock her heart last night.

I am surprised as well. Plus Courtney said she was feeling so bad, she couldn't walk to the car, and had to go by ambulance. Poor woman.

I don't know if they did, but from what it sounds like they did have to do that...

@MarieCoyle She was definitely better today, although still not too well. First thing she did was come make her husband's dinner! I carried the tray for her but still.

Does she plan to get the pacemaker? She actually will likely need a pacemaker/defibrillator my husband has one. It has never activated the defib part. It will shock you if you go into an irregular rhythm.

@MarieCoyle well again, they don't do them anywhere close....so it would be far away and she wouldn't want to go that far away...

I don't know, because she may have to travel an hour away to have it done since nowhere close by does them. While her husband is still around, not sure she would...

@MommyOfEli2013 Courtney, a pacemaker is usually an overnight procedure at most. At least it has been for several of my family members. So it wouldn't be too long. It's also not much of an incision, very tiny.

Your uncle forcing him to use his walker could be a good thing I just hope he continues if he reallly needs it. I hope your grandma is better soon and able to go home

yeah that is good, but trouble is now that he's gone back home my grandfather may stop using it again. I think he forgets because of the dementia... And she is home ^^

She will probably have poor health the rest of her life because of her heart and her lungs...but if she can feel better some that would be good

@just4him well with her issues; lungs (COPD) and heart...she never will be very well... and he has dementia so I think he forgets to use it, even though it is right by the bed. He does remember his pills every day though...so hard to say.

Doesn't mean she is a whole lot better though, and he might not be using it anymore...I'll have to check when I go over later.

I don't know that she is feeling better necessarily. She's still having breathing trouble. I guess the stomach thing is a bit better with the new meds...

@RubyHawk She may have had it go too high today, not sure...or it may have been the machines...

Hubs has AFIB but doesn't have a pacemaker. They are trying to control it with meds. I'm glad your grandmother is home; but that doesn't solve the problem of their need for help. That's very concerning.

Sorry that he has it. Doesn't sound too pleasant. That's good they are trying to control it with meds. My grandma too, I think she's on Eliquis for that. No, it doesn't solve the problem. Think it may be time for hospice for him, not sure she'll do it unless he wants it, or doctor recommends it.
