Freddy's For the First Time

Freddy's is nothing more than a fancified burger joint. If I were to compare it to anything I'd say it's close to a Culver's or a Spangles. There are two locations that I am aware of in my area and I have known about it for years. Just never ate there. Until yesterday afternoon. The wife and I had some errands to run and we decided, "Hey, never been to Freddy's before. Let's check it out." And so we did. My opinion? It was good but I'd give it a solid "meh." A little pricey, in my opinion, to what we got. I had the double bacon burger and wifey had the crispy chicken. I don't like the shoestring fries. Not that they didn't taste good, just that I prefer a regular fry. If it is any consolation, I don't like the waffle fries at Chick-Fil-A either. Overall it would not be a place to not ever revisit, but it also would not fare as a place to MUST revisit. I actually prefer Culver's burgers over Freddy's which I thought were a bit thin. 3 out of 5 stars.

I also dislike string fries, weird that they only offer one choice.

Most fast food restaurants really only offer one style of fry and they all seem to try to have something that is unique to their brand. In Freddy's case I guess it's the shoestring fry.

@porwest - I see, I understand that it's a bit of a pain to offer the choice of two different kind of fries.

@LadyDuck Some do. Arby's, for example, has curly fries and regular fries available. I think Hardees does as well.

We don't have either of those around here. What's your very favorite place to eat?

@porwest I guess my favorite fast food item is McDonald's crispy chicken sandwich. But I do love the McRib which I see is back on the menu.

@1creekgirl I like both. I actually look forward to the McRib's coming out.

I don't know if I have a particular favorite. I tend to have a favorite menu item and so wherever I go depends on who has the menu item I want. Feeling like a Whopper or an original chicken sandwich it's Burger King. Feeling like a double Quarter Pounder it's McDonald's. Feeling like a roast beef sandwich it's Arby's. Feeling like a Frisco burger it's Hardees. Feeling like a butter burger it's Culver's. Just kind of goes like that for me.

I ate at Freddy’s once before I went on Weight Watchers. It reminded me more of a Steak & Shake. Nothing great, but nothing bad. (I don’t like Culver’s at all.)

@porwest — I like a little hamburger with my tomatoes, and Culver’s charges by the slice for their tomatoes. I’m also not fond of those butter rolls.

@FourWalls I suppose in the world that's why we have so many options. Multiple tastes.

Inside, now that you mention it, Freddy's DOES kind of look like that. Haven't been to a Steak & Shake in years. Partly because it's crap and partly because they have largely gone out of business around here. lol. I love Culver's. Pricey, but good. And I like they have a nice variety.

I'm glad you found out it's a 'meh' place.

@porwest That's sad. I like to get a decent burger on my burger. Last week, the Bible study ladies went to Red Robin. Now that's a burger! Good fries too.

Yeah. It really was. I mean, there was hardly any burger on my burger. I wanted to quip the Wendy's old line, "Where's the beef?" lol

@just4him I have not been to Red Robin in years. I remember the last time I went there my burger required a fork to eat it. lol

For me it's just a texture thing and the way I have to eat them. They can keep them. lol

I have never been to a Culver's but Freddy's burgers seem skimpy to me. We went a time or two, but do not go on a regular basis. I may have mystery shopped them at some point as well.

Skimpy is a good way to describe them, because that's what I thought too. I joked to the wife I wanted to go to the counter and quip the famous Wendy's commercial line, "Where's the beef?" They are definitely on the occasional list and was nothing to write home about.

Some of such fancy food joints are overrated. I have experienced it here too. I am not aware of any of these burger joints that you have mentioned.

Some places simply survive on the "uniqueness" of their presence and I think Freddy's is one of them since they are not nearly as ubiquitous as all the other fast food joints are.

Although I still say McDonald's has the best fries, but not nearly as good as when they fried them in beef tallow. That being said, McDonald's does add a beef flavoring to their vegetable oil used to fry them in these days.
