Q of the D: Are You Optimistic or Pessimistic About Your Future?

How do you feel about the current direction of your country and your life personally? Are you optimistic toward the future or pessimistic? If you are optimistic, what things can you point to that your government is doing to make your life better? If you are pessimistic what things are being done by your government that worry you? Finally, are you confident the world is heading to a better place.
I have to say for me, I am pessimistic right now. Some things in my country (U.S.) and the world really concern me. Here are some of them:
1. Covid Virus and Mandates
- It seems Covid is here to stay in one form or the other. Wearing masks or getting a shot does not protect you from getting the virus, or prevent it's spread, yet our government keeps pushing them on us instead of focusing more on different therapeutics to treat them. I think the Biden administration should have learned their lesson that forcing people through intimidation like job firings or closing businesses will not help our already fragile economy.
2. Gobal Warming vs Nuclear War
-We have a President and administration who believes the greatest threat to our survival is climate change. Yes, climate has always gone through weather changing cycles, but it has done so for centuries and at a minute rate, which does not warrant the hysteria perpetrated by left-wing activists, the media, and those in power. Instead, I fear being annihilated by a nuclear bomb more, which could happen at any time with so many dangerous countries now capable of using it. For proof, just look at the current situations in Ukraine-Russia and the horrific killings by the Palestinian Sunni-Islamic fundamentalist militant organization called Hamas. Hamas is supported by some Arab nations like Iran, who have nuclear potential.
3. Living Paycheck to Paycheck
-Why is inflation still so high? Who is to blame for the sustained high prices in gas, food, clothes and durable goods? I put the blame with the policies of this administration who on day 1 attacked the oil industry. For better or worse oil is not only used to fuel our cars but needed to produce many of the things we use. Add in this administration's continued spending and you have a recipe for an economic crisis and the threat of a recession.
4. Illegal Immigration and the Border Crisis
-In spite of what the Biden administration's Homeland Security Secretary and our border Czar V.P. Kamala Harris says the border is not secure. There are 9,000 illegals a day coming into our country, the majority not vetted. Already, 2.3 million illegals have entered the U.S. this year. Many are being housed not only in shelters, but due to overcrowding, in hotels, community centers, and even our sidewalks and airports. (I bet plane travelers really enjoy sharing the restrooms). Our border is a joke! Do you really believe all these immigrants are seeking asylum because they are being persecuted and endangered in their own countries?
5. Terrorist Groups, Crime and Lenient District Attorneys
-The organization of groups like Antifa and even members of BLM perpetuate violence in the name of racial equality. These groups have caused rioting, killed and assaulted citizens, destroyed public property, and have increased crime by looting stores in the name of racial injustice. People feel unsafe in their communities. DA's and Mayors in major cities do nothing to punish these perpetrators, turning a blind eye, with anyone arrested being released without bail.
In conclusion, I have to admit I'm troubled by what has transpired in a few short years. I feel like I'm seeing the destruction of my country's values and ideals (which made it great) being replaced with hatred and intolerance toward anyone whose views differ from that of the administration and those who support it. We are becoming a dictatorial Third World country.
So, in summary what is your position?
Do you agree with anything mentioned here as a worry? Do you believe your country is doing a good job dealing with these and other problems that I have not even mentioned? What things can you point to that makes you feel optimistic about your future? Are you optimistic or pessimistic in your current government's ability to put us on the right track? Or perhaps you are completely satisfied with the job they are doing.
What are your thoughts?

@dgobucks226 And some leaders are arrogant even if they show the face of those who always come to help. They never help if there is nothing to gain, hypocrite!

Thanks for your response and reading my post. Sometimes I get so frustrated with what is going on in the world I need to express my feelings.
Arrogant leaders definitely threaten the world you are right! Kim Jong Un (North Korea), Putin (Russia), Iran, Iraq, and Xi Jinping of China who look to expand their territory through the threat of atomic weapons and invasion not only makes me pessimistic for the future but worried one of these countries will one day fire off a nuclear weapon.

Goodness, you and I agree on everything here. You definitely said it better than I could. I would like to think a new administration in 2024 could take us in a new direction, but this regime has hoodwinked so many people by pushing their misinformation (which MAGA Republicans have tried to do as well), that I don’t know if enough people will want a new administration. They seem content in giving up our freedoms while allowing criminals and people illegally here to get away with whatever they want. If all criminals would vote for you if they could, what does that say about your policies?
I feel optimistic though. I think God has good things in store, if we wake up.

Thanks for reading and responding to my post. I get so tired of getting half-truths and coverups from the media who continue to protect this President and this administration's policies I need to express my right to speak out somewhere. And to provide an alternative opinion to the many online here who have been duped into believing whatever the mainstream news says. If only they would report and show all the news many would wake up to what is going on in our country.
I appreciate those kind words. Crime is definitely on the rise everywhere and especially in cities with catch and release laws and no bail endorsed by Mayors and DA's.
Is there anything else which bothers you about the state of our country?

@AmbiePam Those are some additions I definitely agree are troubling! It seems our leaders are catering to social trends which lack any logic or common sense. Gender identification is not something to be celebrated or encouraged in our schools. And abortion on demand has become a way to not accept responsibility for acting irresponsibly. Your points are well taken.
You can add these other concerns to the list:
Radicalization of College students to embrace Marxism and Socialism.
Teaching of Racism and CRT in Schools.

@dgobucks226 Those are rightful concerns too. It’s downright shocking what is acceptable to be taught from grade school right into college.

A great well written post DB, exceptional..
You have summed it up wonderfully.
Even if it all sucks badly, I have slim hope, but mostly that is only faith in God.
I think the world is on it's way out and mostly because of one factor..hatred and intolerance.
Man is engineering his own demise through his killings of innocents, now and beyond.
Remember though, this will come back to them a thousand fold.
Evil never wins. Never. Even if it takes 10 thousand years, they will get it all back in the end.

Thanks for reading and your nice compliment OT. Sometimes you have to speak up, state the facts and tell it like it is...
Yes, hatred and intolerance has caused such a societal decline. Pitting groups against one another by shouting them down and using physical violence when you disagree with their opinions has really divided this country. We live in a free society, one in which you have a right to express your opinion, even if it differs from your governments. The Biden administration using the FBI to silence those speaking out against government policies through intimidation, taking them to court to financially ruin them, and sending them to jail (as they did with some of the peaceful protesters on Jan. 6th) our tactics of socialist and communist countries!
Another worry of mine is this wokeness and cancel culture of people through news and other social medias.

@dgobucks226 It's okay. I enjoyed reading your views but at 77 I don't want to live for another 20 or so years. 'Pessimistic' was probably a bad word for me to use.
Certainly we need good governance from our leaders.

@JudyEv I think life is a series of cycles of good and bad. We can be pessimistic, but hopeful in time things will turn around. Yes, I agree, government decisions can have a definite effect on our lives.

Oh no, I'm sorry this depressing post put you in such a pessimistic state of mind. My hope is that anyone who reads this post "wakes up" and in our country votes those now in power out of office in the next election. In the U.S. we need to put our citizens priorities first. We have too many homeless and mentally unstable people who need help, others living paycheck to paycheck or on government assistance, and lawless cities not safe for those who live there and the businesses who provide them their needs.
On a positive note, there is always hope and prayers. And knowledge! Those who seek the truth can find it and try to change things for the better. We need to think for ourselves, not let the media do it for us.
Thanks for reading and commenting!

Yes, all legitimate concerns Manuela. In our country we also have other issues which are destroying society as we once knew it.
Other Concerns:
The Prevelance of Wokeness and Cancel Culture in our society.
Radicalization of College students to embrace Marxism and Socialism.
The Transgender craze and mutilation of young children.
Hope this has not spread to Portugal.

@dgobucks226 Almost the same thing happens in Portugal, now our Miss Portugal is transgender for the first time, it's ridiculous, it wasn't a woman who won but several surgeries that transformed a man into a woman.

The main concern I have at the present time is global warming and climate change. If you were to read my daily posts, you know that is one of the issues I concentrate on. Whether it's cyclical or man-made, the threats are real and will happen and are happening in our lifetime. I won't go into specifics; but it bothers me more than nuclear threats. I can do a little something about climate change; but I can do nothing about stopping a nuclear bomb....although that is on my mind as well. Temperatures will and have reached the point at which the human body cannot withstand them. More and more polar ice is melting and affecting ocean currents and eventually lower lying land masses. Well, I've gone on more than I had planned. Would like to address each of your concerns; but I won't. Have a good week. I think I will have to make another post of my own concerning climate change.

@dgobucks226 We can only hope that the destructive aspects of a nuclear war will keep all countries at bay. I still think we are already seeing effects of climate change and global warming; but I guess we'll have to just see what happens. The coral reefs are suffering because of the heat and dolphins and fish are dying due to the warm water and drought. Have a good day.

Wow Linda! That's the longest response you've ever given to one my posts.
I do agree that conditions around the world are changing, they always have, for as I remember at one time, they claimed we were going to have an ice age do to the destruction of the Ozone layer. What happened there?
Anyway, I agree with your points about the changing conditions, but disagree with how extensive they are and that the earth will eventually succumb to them in the near or distant future. For example, our Climate Change Czar, John Kerry continues to fly on a "Private Jet" so, wouldn't he want to save our planet by not flying if global warming was so threatening? After all, Airplane travel is a polluter of the environment.
In closing, if Russia or China decides to shoot off an atomic bomb in our direction, we won't have to worry about climate change any longer. Also, I do not think you can argue against my other areas of concern because they are indefensible.
Have a great day. Sorry I could not convince you that these other issues will lead to our demise quicker than the climate change hoax.
