Saved $50 today

Went to the supermarket today to get things we need that were on sale and some other items that were full price.
Ended up saving about $50.
But we spent about $98.
We would have paid about $148 had there not been a sale, however, it feels like we still spent a lot.
The best way to save money is to buy nothing but that is impossible.
For the second time now Tide detergent is on sale but the one I want is not available.
Very frustrating.
We are almost out of it.
I bet it will become available once the sale is over.

You saved a lot! Good job. Everything is so expensive these days. Have a great day.

I bought pantiliners on sale for $6.20 at one supermarket on Saturday. At a different supermarket yesterday the same ones were on sale for same price but there was also a digital coupon. Final price was $5.34. Of course I got that. Saved even more. But then wish I hadn’t gotten them at the first store. I could’ve probably gotten two yesterday at $5.34. Unless there was a limit for digital coupon. It’s probably just for one-time use.

Tide? Why not just Xtra? You could have saved another $10. lol. But I know what you mean. You try your best to find the best deals, but it can be hard these days. Everything is of course more expensive, and what seems like a deal today would have been way too expensive a year ago.

What is Xtra? I am looking for Tide Ultra Oxi. It is on sale at my supermarket for $15.99 and there is a $3 digital coupon. That's $12.99 for 115 fl.oz. Good price. But it's not available in the store. Sold out I bet as there is a price sticker but shelf empty. I am tempted to go to another location but it is 20 min walk to the bus and then about 40 min bus ride. And waiting for the bus possibly. Plus, no guarantee it will be in stock at that location. And the supermarket's website doesn't have the option to check what store it's available in. This could be a waste of my time going there.

@porwest sometimes even the top brands don’t work.

@lovebuglena Xtra is just a cheaper laundry detergent. Usually around $8 or $9. Works just fine.

And maybe more than that. Some prices are just insane. You don’t buy much but the total cost is big.

Good job on the savings! You scored a big win on that shopping trip.

@lovebuglena My boss gave me a $100 gift card to Publix (our major grocery store chain in Florida), and I went and spent it all on BOGO deals, so I basically got $200 worth of groceries for free. Now that was a good feeling!

I did. However, doesn’t feel like a big win as the total we paid was pretty high. Would be awesome if we saved more than we spend.

@moffittjc Wow! Now that's a hell of a deal! All items turned out to be BOGO?

You did well. It's hard not to spend money these days. Not spending any isn't an option.

@lovebuglena We do that too but I wouldn't really call it impulse buying. Things might be a really good price or one of us might say 'we should get this or that. We're getting low on it.'

@JudyEv True. Though sometimes we end up getting things we don't really need. It's more of a want than anything.

You can opt not to spend anything on a certain day but eventually you have no choice but to spend. Sometimes I go to the store for an item or two but end up getting way more stuff and hence spending more money.

That's a good idea for saving money to shop in a sale.Saving $50 is amazing,i just saved $5 at supermarket in last sale.I also believe the Tide detergent will be available after the sale, such a case is very common here.

I am almost out of Tide so I want to be able to buy it even if it’s not on sale. Cannot do that if it’s not available. Would be nice if I can save more than I actually spend.
Wonder if that is even possible.
