When you have cats in the house this can be one of the most disconcerting sounds you can ever hear. It's that rapid-fire pump action of something about to come up, and of course it is something you will wind up having to clean up. Grayson this time. Not just a hairball. Food and all. He eats too fast. Just gobbles it up and I keep telling him he needs to slow down. But he never gets it. And at least two or three times a week it comes... Huk huk huk huk SPLAT!

Oh, your poor cat. But how can you persuade a cat to eat slower? They don't understand. He's just hungry and he wants to get the food down him!

Yeah. There's no telling him anything. Sometimes I don't even think he chews it. Just swallows it. lol

@sharonelton The pieces are already tiny and there's no way I'm spending all day doing that. lol

@porwest Oh, no! That's not good! No wonder he keeps throwing it up! Have you tried cutting it up smaller?

My old cat used to do the same. My ex would watch him puke and then say to me “your cat puked”.

Sounds about right. SOMETIMES I pretend like I don't see it and wait for the wife to find it and then act surprised.

@porwest Someone once told me to put golf balls in the food bowl to slow them down. I never did try that trick though.

@NJChicaa I can see it now. Huk huk huk huk, bonk, bounce, bounce, roll... The wife gives me a stern look, "What the hell did you feed the cat?" "Well, the damn golf balls weren't supposed to get EATEN."

The friends we visited last week told us their cat has the same problem. They seemed quite untroubled at occasionally waking up to find cat vomit on their bed-covers and that kind of thing. I'm glad we don't have a cat

@Fleura Tell me about it. Those were my exact sentiments every time it happened, followed by some very naughty words not suitable for the company of children. lol

There was a time, when we had the other two cats which are gone now, I'd get a slimy surprise between my toes trekking through the hallway some mornings. Now there's at least a night light—God knows why we never just turned the damn light on? lol

Oh yuk. I hate cleaning up cat sick but you can never get them outside quick enough to stop them doing it inside. With horses that bolt their food, people put a couple of large rocks in their feed bin so they have to fossick (search) around for it a bit more.

Ours are indoor cats anyway, so they are never outside to get sick. I imagine a horse unloads much more "sick" than a cat does. lol

@porwest Except that horses can't vomit. Anything that needs to come out has to come out the rear end.

@JudyEv Oh. I had no idea a horse could not vomit. Interesting. Like I say often, the things you learn around here. lol

His cuteness is the only thing that keeps him out of getting into TOO much trouble when he's misbehaving. Which...he's a cat...that's 90% of the time. lol

Why I’m happy to feed and shelter the neighborhood cats. No splat to clean up.

Yeah. They can just do it outside. In between the bushes. Out of sight, out of mind. lol
