Do you want a cashless society?

People are talking often about this. They want to remove cash. I don't think it's a good idea. Why shouldn't we be able to use cash? I wanted to pay with my credit card when I bought some things. Many errors appeared and I couldn't make the payment. This is why I think that cash should exist. A cashless society is one where physical money is replaced totally by digital currency.

I am one of those who prefers to have options. I use cash much less frequently than I did many years ago, but I still like to use it from time to time, and always keep some around.

I also want to have options, I use cash time to time, particularly for things that are not expensive.

@porwest If I go to a cafe to order a coffee, I pay cash.

Our government is pushing in this direction, but people disagree.

How one pushes back is to make a shift to more cash. If people use more cash it sends a message that that's what people want to do.

@porwest - People here want to keep cash at home (or in their safe at the bank), it's a "just in case", as you never know what could happen in the future. I almost never use cash, but I always have some cash with me. When the credit/debit card machine does not work at the grocery store, I can still pay and come home with my grocery.

Here most people use cash. There are people who never heard of online payments. They don't have internet and are very poor.

There are times when the machine won't work and we have to pay in cash, that's why we have many choices here.

With all the security issues and such that exist in the digital world, I certainly want to keep using cash. I know, pros and cons with cash too . . . but at least I have it and can choose to use it. I've seen certain businesses that are cashless now - and I can see why it works for them - but as a consumer I want to keep my option to pay by cash.

@dya80dya It's interesting that several people I know have had bank issues lately - that the bank would not let them access their accounts in the regular way. Sometimes technology is more of a pain - cash is pretty much straight forward.

In many places, people use cash a lot. They don't trust online payments. I had so many errors and the bank didn't let me pay online. I had to make the payment three times.

I don't think it will go totally cashless. We're already moving in that direction.

Maybe it won't go totally cashless in the near future, but later maybe we will have a cashless society.

We only pay with cash/check. We seldom use our debit card. So no, not interested in seeing a cashless society though the governments will do what they please regardless of what the people want, as usual.

Yes, I think the same. I don't think that they care about people's opinions.

I used to think it would be neat to be in a cashless society, but now I think it's a bad idea. Computer systems aren't perfect.

No thank you. Apart from the errors, you might be without electricity or the card readers go offline or the bank is offline. I've experienced these problems many times. I don't think I've ever had problems with cash.

I never had problems with cash either. A woman lost her patience and she was angry because the electricity didn't work. She needed money fast.
