How about that! I have new hearing aids! Now I can ignore everything that everyone says in a high-tech way!
I can hear this song very well, as it’s the first song in the top ten of this month’s list of songs with “gonna” in the title. Again, a big shout out to @JudyEv for the suggestion! Here’s today’s song.
#10: I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter - Fats Waller
You talk about hard decisions? I almost used the 2012 Paul McCartney rendition! He did an album of old jazz and pop standards, and wow did he knock this song out of the park!
In the end, I had to go back to 1935 and the version that made this song popular: by Mr. Thomas Wright Waller.
I can explain Fats Waller’s popularity very easily: in 1936 there was an ad in the Knoxville, Tennessee newspaper for a concert Waller was having. A couple of days after the first announcement appeared it started to include a banner that said, “For colored audiences.” I wonder if they made the whites sit in the balcony if they did get to attend.
Nobody cared that Fats was African-American. They just loved his music. And I still do.
I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter
Written by Fred E. Ahlert and Joe Young
Recorded by Fats Waller
Released as a single, 1935

I bet on this one. I am rich again. Well, I will be when I get to Vegas and collect.

@xander6464 — I know I can’t compete against betting on Orangeface to say something stupid. But I’m happy to help fill your coffers!

An oldie and a goodie and even though I wasn't born in 1935 I do remember this song very well.

I never have found age to be a hinderance in finding old songs. I can thank my parents for that.

@JudyEv — my pleasure. And, I looked up the old newspapers: yes, the whites DID sit in the balcony at his shows!
