Moving along

This morning sun came in and beat out the fog, cheering me and a whole bunch of other people. Cold but bright. I made it to the pool and worked out for about 30 minutes though the gym was having issues with their heating system. Brrrrr. I finally made it to the senior thrift store. The reindeer in the photo I bought at the thrift store. I also bought the red and gold cloth there. Thrift stores are such fun. Hubby talked me into walking around the block with him and Rufus. Sometimes my right big toe gets inflamed and aches something awful. It makes walking even more of an issue but I got the job done. We made our annual fruitcake batch yesterday. Hubby worked and worked until he got the entire batch of little cakes and the big one all wrapped in paper and foil. He placed the batch in the 123 year old pie safe cupboard. In a couple of weeks we will mail one to daughter and another to a sister. Butter and mollasses and honey and fruit and lots of nuts and freshly ground wheat flour. Good stuff.

It has been grey here for the past week or so. We had rain for several days. The reindeer is a handsome fellow. Darn toe. Why do you think it is getting inflamed? Your fruitcake sure sounds good. I bet they will enjoy it.

@Kandae11 Its made of some kind of mesh metal. Very light weight then there's the fake pearls in the antlers.

I think PBS needs to do a series around you and your clan. The reindeer is very pretty.

@RasmaSandra I'm glad your toe pain went away. I've had these toe-foot flareups for years. Not fun.

I haven't gone to a thrift store in a couple weeks. Soon as I get better I plan to go to one in Kennewick. It's supposed to be low prices with a lot of great things.

You are one of the only people that I know that still makes Christmas cake from scratch like that. My mother used to make 2 each year, a dark cake and a light one. She would make them in early November and wrap them and let them rest in a cool area. After a period of time she would take them out and pour the brandy over them, and soak the cheesecloth in it and then wrap the cakes with that and cover it with saran wrap and finally the tin foil, and let it sit for a couple of weeks, and then check it and soak it again. She was very well known for her Christmas cake, people would love to stop in for a bit of it and a coffee or tea.

Your hubby must be feeling so much better to be so active. That's really good to hear. I'm sorry about your toe though.

@JudyEv He struggled to wrap all the fruitcakes. It wore him out. He is walking Rufus down the block and back most days now. Thanks for your sweet well wishes.
