The World Has Gotten Too Big

I used to go around with my two cousins' Christmas caroling. We went up in the Highlands which was the rich part of town. People would come out of their houses and bring us candy canes and hot chocolate. It was a really nice experience. I have not heard of or seen any caroling in years. Except in old movies. Maybe those who go to church do some in-programs during the holidays. But does anyone still go out caroling anymore? I think the world and all communities have just gotten too big. The image is from my collection.

Your picture really does suit the topic of the discussion. I remember back in the early 70's when we would have Christmas carolers come to the house and sing. We always expected them on Christmas Eve and we looked forward to it. My hubby's family went out caroling together in December 1990, I remember it well because we could not go as I was ill. They just went to neighbourhoods of the 8 family members, but it sounded like alot of fun.

That's what I was going for. Has it been 50 years since caroling were out singing this time of year?

@celticeagle In my life it has. My in-laws went out, but alot of that was because it was sort of a house warming for us, as we had just moved into a new home about that time.

That is one beautiful image. The tree branches have subtle hints of color to them. Amazing work. :)

@celticeagle Oh, when you said the image was from your collection, I thought you meant your collection of Art .. like paintings. It’s still very beautiful. Looks like something from Kinkade :)

I went carolling with two different groups (my church choir and a friend's teen church group) just before "Uncle Bob" spoiled everything by getting beligerently drunk at the family gathering on Christmas Eve. I'm not sure if fisticuffs were thrown (I was in the dining room and the 'action' was in the living room) but my grandmother dragged one of her sons into the dining room and sat on him to keep him from getting into it.

@celticeagle Think of Granny Clampett... One time a drunken teen broke into her house and flopped on her couch, thinking he was at his own home. He vomited on the floor and she (according to my aunt) shook her finger at him and told him to clean it up,

When my children were growing up they would go around the neighborhood caroling with their friends. It was way more common back then but I haven't seen or heard of caroling locally at all. Our town does have a tree lighting and carolers there.

Neither have I seen or heard carolers in many years. This made me think about the movies that I have been watching on the Hallmark channel. I miss that caroling.

That's a very lovely image. My little town keeps itself alive by maintaining quite a number of antqiue type stores downtown- "historic" is splashed about everywhere. The Saturday after Black Friday, a group of people gathered downtown and regaled shoppers with carols. So, yes, caroling is still somewhat alive.

That's a lovely street scene. I've never seen any carolers. People just don't seem as community oriented as they once were. Have a great day.
