If you wanna continue this grammatical atrocity, we’ll start with “wanna” songs tomorrow. But today we conclude the month of “gonna” songs with the one that tops my list. One more big shout-out to @JudyEv for the suggestion. Here’s another oldie goldie to top the list.
#1: I’m Gonna Knock on Your Door - Eddie Hodges
Remember Billy “Crash” Craddock in last month’s “ain’t” list? I bring him up because it was his 1972 cover of this song that introduced me to it.
But let’s go back to the youthful days of rock and roll. And if you’re thinking that looks like a kid in the screen grab, you’re right! Eddie Hodges was all of fourteen when he had a big hit with this song. It wasn’t his only success: he did the Oscar-winning song “High Hopes” in the film A Hole in the Head with Ol’ Blue Eyes. After his childhood acting and recording success, Hodges had enough of the biz and earned a master’s degree in counseling in his home state of Mississippi. He’s retired from that, too.
The Isley Brothers originally recorded this, and their version is good, too. You just can’t go wrong with this fun song about teenage love.
And good luck in getting this song out of your head.
Thanks for reading.
I’m Gonna Knock on Your Door
Written by Aaron Schroeder and Sid Wayne
Recorded by Eddie Hodges

@FourWalls yes it definitely would be a stalker song these days but I do remember it. Life was less complicated than nowadays.

@FourWalls It's a bit like 'Norman, Hold the Ladder Steady' in its innocence.

I don’t know if this made up for the country stuff, but I always like putting nice surprises like this in the countdown.

This started with “ain’t.” I don’t think I have enough songs for “gotta,” so you’re lucky there.
