We all know the word corpse. A dead body that once housed a human spirit. My Word Genius word for this morning was "corpus." I knew this one from physiology. The "corpus callosum" is a large bundle of neurons connecting the left and right sides of our brains. I had also heard of "corpus" referring to a large body of literary works, as in "Mark Twain's entire corpus." So "corpus basically means "body" (as In body of work) or collection (as in collection of nerve cells). Had you known this one?
Definitions: A collection of written texts, especially the entire works of a particular author or a body of writing on a particular subject.. (Anatomy) The main body or mass of a structure..

Corpus means body in Latin and we call the body "corpo" in Italian. "Corpus Cristi (the body of Christ) I have heard this phrase every Sunday during the communion.

@TheHorse Yes, you have a own called Corpus Christi, it's on the Gulf of Mexico in Texas. It got the name because it was discovered by the Spaniards the day of the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Sunday after Pentecost.

I don't usually use it when I mention a "body of work." Perhaps I will, having researched the word.

I have heard of the word Corpus on Three Stooges video shorts when Shemp would see a deceased body in their video shorts on television.
