We Love Bananas!

My family just loves bananas. We never get tired of them. But, I have got to get a banana keeper for ours. I keep forgetting or putting this further down on my 'need to get' list. The article I am reading says you can refrigerate ripe bananas. For a couple of days anyway. Freeze them too for use later. And, I loved the plastic wrap around the stems to keep them from ripening so quickly. Not sure I would go to that extreme but you never know. As the fruit prices go up we may need to find new ways to keep fruit longer. Lots of good info in this article and some great recipe ideas. I am sharing it with the link below:

Frozen bananas become "mushy", you can use them to make banana bread, but to eat they have a weird consistency.

I think that is what most freeze them to use them for.

@celticeagle For personal experience all fruits become mushy when you freeze them, may be the only exception are the blueberries.

We are banana people too! Most times we can eat all the bananas before they get too ripe . . . but if it gets too ripe, I freeze them. We did stick them in the fridge previously, but they'd always get forgotten.

I thought covering the stem with plastic wrap was odd.

@celticeagle The bananas we get from the store have a plastic wrapping on the bunch stems - or at least the organic ones have it. I guess there must be something to that!

I've never been fond of bananas. They scum up my teeth. I much prefer juicy fruits that leave my mouth feeling clean.

I have to have bananas in the house at all times if I can. My son needs them for potassium levels that are low.

Our experience have always been that the banana skin go black in the fridge. Looks mighty unappetising, even though they don't ripen further for a few days
