Grocery Fiasco

We have our groceries delivered because I no longer drive and there is no one who does in the family. Last night(or more like this morning actually) when our SS money hit the bank I scheduled our grocery delivery for between 12-1p. I slept until 2p. and when I woke up our groceries hadn't gotten here. This has never happened before. I looked for an email. One had come in at 12:40p. saying the delivery would be delayed. Should be here in a couple of hours. When 3:45p. rolled around and we hadn't gotten it I called in to their customer service. (Got a fellow with a Mexican accent. This always makes my anxiety worse because I can't understand what they are telling me. I am already feeling some anxiety so the representative not speaking clearly only adds to that.)He tells me that the driver assigned to our delivery had an emergency and so they are trying to get another one to take over. Walmart refunds the $9.95 delivery fee. Nice of them. The Mexican gentleman tells it should be here by 5-6p. He said if it doesn't come to call back. It doesn't so I call back. This time I am told by the automated system that it is being prepared. What does that mean? By now it is 5:17p. and I am told that I can call the local store where the order will be prepared. I call the local Walmart and am told it is being prepared and should be there soon. I tell her need to know a time. She says a couple of hours. That's what I needed to hear. That was at 6:38p. So, here I am waiting at 6:54p. in hopes that it will be here by 8p. or so. It better get here. The problem is that if it isn't and I have to go ahead with a cancellation and the money put back in my account that takes 3 or 4 days at the least and I don't really want to put out more money. I so hate to be dependent on other people. Image is from my collection of old pics.

That's why I like to do my own shopping... I don't have to wait around for it.

That would be the perfect scenario. We don't have any way to get things home.

@celticeagle I used to walk there and back. Now, I take the bus, but sometimes that involves more walking than it should (stupid bus system here).

That is horrible that you will have to wait the 3-4 days for the money to be refunded. What if you had spent all you have. That would frustrate me so badly. I really hope they arrive I cannot believe how much they gave you the run around.

Yes I am well accustomed to what you are trying to deal with there. But they know me well enough now that they don't dare steal my orders. The orders were literally being stolen by drivers here. They have improved greatly. Hope you were able to get yours. And I ADORE this Christmas card type photo you put here..another one of your collection?

Luckily it did come. Stolen? Good grief! I did get mine by 8:45p. It was originally supposed to be here between 12p. and 1p. I guess the driver had an emergency. I can't believe it took them that long to find another driver.

@1creekgirl ......That is helpful. I gave up driving in 2014 and so the delivery service after COVID was so bad has been great for us.

@celticeagle We don't have delivery here in the country, but I've used the grocery pickup from Walmart which is nice because I don't have to go in the store.

I hope not too. My budget is too tight to have to wait for that money to be put back into my account. And we needed the groceries. It did finally get here at 8:45p. I can't believe it took them that long to get another diriver.

I too can't do the marketing these days because of my heart problem. I order my groceries, vegetables and all home essentials too. I sometimes have to face such delays.

I would hate to have to depend on that. But we are far enough out no one would deliver to us anyway.

I wish you the very best of luck and i hope your groceries get there. The latest deliveries I have had from Walmart have all worked out and I am glad, Back in April one day before Easter when my SS arrived I ordered but it was already about 4 PM. By midnight I was put in touch with online chat and told the driver had some kind of prolem with my order. Do I want to reorder everything???? I almost went into the red with my anxiety. If I had already paid the rent I could not reorder and would wind up with no groceries at all. So I said reorder. He said the other order money would be replaced into my account so that was good. He said I would get that order first thing in the morning so my groceries arrived at 8 AM on Easter morning, I call the divine intervention

I have been using Walmart's delivery service for several years now and I have never had a problem except for things not being available. I am sort of in the same boat as you are. On a tight budget and if I had to cancel that order that would mean waiting for 3 or 4 days to get the money back in my account. I would have to wait to pay other bills and order again or do without food completely for nearly a week. I am thankful it did come just nearly 8 hours late. They told me the driver assigned to my order had had an emergency. I hope all is okay at his end.

So sorry to hear about that fiasco. I would have anxiety too if I had to keep waiting and waiting with no definitive end in sight. Did you ever get the delivery, or did you cancel?

I hope it has worked out better for you by now. I have that print and the entire booklet that you show here- from a 1948 printing.

@celticeagle I need to find the booklet. You would love the paintings-kitty family tucked into a box bed; reindeer in their very nice wooden stalls, the elves all doing various tasks. Amazing and so busy!

I am sorry that there is not a grocery store within walking distance, that would solve alot of problems. I love your photo, I cannot get mine to load.
