Ha ha ha. For a couple of years my doctor has suggested I should go on a statin. Then the cardiologist suggested I should go on a statin. I told him I would consider it when I was not working at school, as one side effect is muscle soreness and pain, and I get that from school, from work. Now, my Dr. says she does not think it is necessary, as my cholesterol was good the last it was checked, and besides, they are learning that statins do not work the way they thought they did. But. . . due to some kidney issues, very minor, I might want to take an ACE inhibitor, but my Blood Pressure is already lowish. That would be like Lisinopril. . . . which they took my husband off of, because it hurt his kidneys. . . oh, and a side effect is also fatigue. Or a more expensive solution would be one or another of a certain heart protective diabetes drug. . . My insurance might not cover it, and one side effect is yeast infections. We will wait another six months to see what my labs all look like and make a decision then. But I have been pestered often about taking a statin, and now ?

I’m on one. My dad and stepmom aren’t, which shocks me. I’d love to not be on one.

Has your doctor says specifically why you are on one. It is standard operating procedure these days to put people on it whether it is really needed or not.

@GardenGerty For high cholesterol. I was shocked because my diet is not full of cholesterol laden foods, but he told me our metabolism changes when we age. My stepmom was put on one, but had a bad reaction to it.

@AmbiePam Some meds are good for some people and bad for others. I hope you find what you need.

I sometimes wonder just how much faith we should put in our doctors. I'm sure they mean well but still ....

They go by the numbers, and if you are in a bad spell your numbers are bad. That is how I was in June. Now in December my numbers are improved. Hubby says "medicine is not science, but more like art. That is why doctors are always "practicing medicine" trying to get good."

@GardenGerty Good point about 'practising medicine'! And now I don't know whether to put a happy or sad face! lol

At least the doctors are checking and finding what might work best for you. Have you thought of getting a second opinion? If I were in your situation I think I would look for another specialist's input.

Well, I have my primary's opinion, the cardiologist as well, and another doctor who did my "wellness check". I think science is moving along and changing.

I have learnt to listen only a little too what doctors say, except when there´s something very important. Two months ago I went to a gynecologist wo made a prscription on some creams because on my age. I went to the pharmacy and if I bought them I´m have to stop eating, so expensive were they. So I asked Humberto and he changed them for some creams that would serve the same purpose but were very inexpensive.

I think I will listen about the blood sugar, and keep trying to be active. We will see again in six months if I need anything. I will do what is in my control.

They took Bob off of Lisinopril, because of his kidneys. At least my doctor looked at the big picture for me. She is also the one that took him off of lisinopril.

Well, I do have a little build up. Not sure if I can do anything to reduce it. My biggest threat seems to be my diabetes.
