Relics of the Past

Well, besides me...haha. When we baby boomers go there are a lot of things that will be gone too. Do You Use Checks Anymore? I have a checking account but I can't remember the last time I used a check. I got a check a few weeks back as a reimbursement and all I had to do was take a picture of it and deposit it in my account and never had to leave the apartment. Baby boomers are seeing a lot of such things going by the wayside. Like wearing suits to work. A thing of the past as folks more casual clothing. Personal service is becoming a thing of the past also as technical advancements take over. And, goodbye landline phones. Cable is less popular too as on-demand is becoming more popular. Fax machines seem to be nearly obsolete now too. Those technical advancements again. When was the last time you saw or used a paper map? I remember when I was thrilled to get personal, handwritten letters. Not so anymore. Newspapers and magazines too. How about VhS and tape players? Physical music CDs are outmoded now. Remember the old photo albums? Oh, and remember going down to the brick-and-mortar video rental place? And I never even used a standalone GPS device and now they are pretty much outmoded too. I remember my ex inherited his granddad's camera and was thrilled to get it. Now we don't even use them anymore. Pagers are way gone now. Printed encyclopedias are now taken over by Wikipedia. Physical bank branches are going out fast too.
Can you think of anything that is outmoded or simply a thing of the past?

Gosh - all these things from our "era" are going out the door, if they haven't already. I am a die hard and still keep some of these things or ways . . . good to keep around for history lessons for our kids
. Let's see . . . word processors, film and disposable cameras, film processing places, Walkman (to play cassette tapes, also out, and CDs on the go), tape players, phone/address books . . . I know there's more!

I do as well but, there will come a time when we can't get parts or something that will cause us to have to do away with them too.

Manners. No manners anymore. No respect for older generation to the extent of abuse.

You've covered a lot of stuff I would have mentioned. I remember using carbon paper to make copies. Phone books are not needed anymore. I also remember diners with jukeboxes at each booth to put your coins in for music.

Carbon was so messy and could be frustrating.

@celticeagle It certainly was that! The photocopier was a nice upgrade when it came out.

I wrote 3 checks this year. And the reason I did, my debit card stopped working and the bank said it was a glitch, I had to wait a couple of days for a replacement.
I gave up newspapers several years ago, the expense wasn't worth it when the news is so readily available. I do find myself still missing that ''Sunday'' morning feeling of the fat newspaper and fresh coffee.

I always just loved that Sunday paper...but so many papers are no longer in business, or have gone to online paid subscriptions, the feel of online is just not the same for me, somehow.

I was born in the 50's so there's a lot of things that has
been out dated or removed since the 50's like Cassett tapes
reel to reel tapes, typewriters, vcr tapes, cable t v & so on.

I still use a lot of those -- paper checks for certain payments, cable, paper maps, magazines and definitely books. Happy New Year!
