Christmases Past

I don't need to be Scrooge to know the fun I had as a child, or even as an adult with my family at Christmas. There were some good times.
One of the more recent and growing more distant with each year was the year we couldn't gather as a family on Christmas. It was the year when two of my children joined my parents and had a good time. Only my youngest son refused to join in the festivities. His reasons were and are valid.
However, the reason we couldn't get together was because my mother had bronchitis so badly that year, we didn't get together until January. It was the best Christmas ever.
Because our family isn't small, my dad got permission from the church they attended to have the potluck in the church fellowship hall. After the meal, we went to Mom and Dad's to open gifts.
What I liked most about that Christmas is how everyone got along. No arguments. My daughter enjoyed herself and my grandchildren did too. She also tasted some of Dad's homemade brew. I don't recall if it was beer or wine. I think it was wine.
I know Christmas is over, but with the weather the way it is, some people are still getting together for their Christmas celebrations. I thought I would tell you about my favorite late Christmas.
What is your favorite Christmas past celebration? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me from that celebration. This is most of us at Mom and Dad's. I took the picture.

A nice picture!
Often such old times remind me of some of the get togethers we used to had when our relatives used to be more welcoming, less toxic and things were simpler.
Complexities and maze of suspicions have grown up.
Even if we have any such get togethers, we might not have the same fun.
Anyways, if some families can still have such get togethers if possible.

Yes and a repeat of them in the future seems unlikely.
One change over the years is formation of "limited folks group" among the relatives and more brazen criticism behind the back.
Implying people becoming more selfish and narrow minded.

Great picture. We never celebrated with others in the family. It was always just my parents and me. When I got married it was my husband, my in-laws and me. Now it's just my husband and me! Have a good day.

@just4him You're welcome. No, there was a division in the family on my side; so it was always just my parents and me.

That is so nice to look back. For me, my favorite Christmases were when I was young and they were at my grandparent's house. Some great memories.

My family gets together at my great-aunt's house every Christmas. When I was younger, after going to my great-aunt's, I would stay up late opening presents. I also used to pose in front of our Christmas tree.

No drama makes for a great time no matter why you get together

Although I loved Christmases as a child, my favourite Christmas was when I was 20-something and living in my tiny boat, my parents came to stay and I was able to treat them. When I was at 'home' with them they always seemed to have so much to do and it was a lot of work and stress, so I was happy to have them come to me and I cooked a nice meal and we all went out for a walk. All very relaxing.
It only happened the once, because they had animals to tend they couldn't usually get away.
