I decided to have Luna help me clean my freezer.

For some reason I have been hoarding food for a long time. And as now I will not give big parties any longer, I only need to have smaller servings of food. Today, as I was looking for some meat I´m sure that I have but couldn´t find, I came across a very old piece of meat. It is thawing now and upon looking at it I´ll decide whether I will eat it, give it to Luna or just throw it away. I think that it is fine as it has been all the time in a deep freezer and I always wrap everything a lot. But I´ll see. Anyway, I think that I will have to put Luna in a diet. Every time that Luna is being fed by Anita, I come back to a fat Luna after a holiday. I think that a good way of having Luna accept a diet is by giving her only meat instead of dog food that has a lot of cereals and bad carbs. What do you think of it?

If the meat has been in the freezer all the time, I am sure it is safe to give it to Luna if it does not seem very good for human consumption.

The meat has been in the deep freezer so I know that anybody less picky than myself would eat it with no problems. But I know that this is absolutly safe. I would not give Luna anything that couuld be unsafe for her.

@LadyDuck I´m sure that it is safe even for me to eat. I remember when we had a big earthquake in 2010 and I had no electricity for 3 days. I did not open the deep freezer for those days. When the electricity came back everything was frozen but still I threw away all seafood just in case. I am picky.

@marguicha I know that you would never give something to Luna that could hurt her. I am sure the meat is safe to eat.

She is. She ate what I placed on her dish immediatly, not as she does when I fill the dish with dog food. I think that she eats dog food only because she is hungry. The food she is having, on the other hand, is like going to a good restaurant for royal dogs

Dogs are carnivores after all. It should be fine. If it's the least bit questionable you have a doggie ready and able to finish it off for you.

It's good that you're considering smaller quantities of food and potentially altering Luna's diet for her health. When it comes to the old piece of meat, it's best to use your decision. As long as it was well-wrapped and consistently frozen, it might still be safe, but examining it before deciding is a good idea. Transitioning Luna to a meat-based diet might indeed help manage her weight better. Just ensure it's a balanced diet that meets his nutritional needs. Slowly transitioning and consulting a vet for advice could be beneficial too!

I think your idea is probably a good one. Dozens of dogs manage on a diet of just meat but perhaps occasionally she'd need processed food to get the minerals she needs.

I will just give her meat for a couple of days and then she´ll be back to dog food. And then, when I´m cleaning the next freezer drawer, I might find another Tupperware with food I´d like to give to Luna. I don´t have a lot of meat so that it would be too much for her.

@popciclecold Today I will have to check if I can thaw something else for her. If not, she will have to go back to dog food for a while.

If Luna enjoys having meat other than other things then you should try it because it won't seem like a diet to her and she will enjoy the meat,

I think you have made the right decision to only give meat to Luna. She will cut weight faster.

I´ll either give her meat or if I have a meal with meat and veggies, I´ll half cream them to make a sort of soup.
