My mother's house is being sold tomorrow

After my father passed away it was pretty much understood that my mother would wind up moving in with my sister and her family. I was surprised how quickly it was put up for sale, though. Not even 2 months later it was listed and then under contract. My sister moved into her new house just before Christmas and my mother pretty much moved in last week. Anyway the closing is tomorrow and then the house will be gone. I don't really have any connection to it. It was originally purchased for my grandparents when they needed to downsize. After they passed and when my parents were ready to downsize they completely remodeled it and moved in. That was probably about 10 years ago. In any case I haven't spent much time there. It isn't the house I grew up in. It is a shame that she is selling it because it really is beautiful and she has a gorgeous sunroom and garden in the back. But that's what she wants to do so I hope she is happy living with my sister.

She likely doesn't want to live alone and be constantly reminded of her late husband.

@NJChicaa I can't say I'd blame her. I'd probably do the same thing if/when I lose George. I don't want to think that far ahead, though.

I’m glad it went quickly for her, and I hope she got a good price for it. I hope she likes her “new life” with your sister. You never know. My mom and I lived together and had no problems, but on the other hand she wouldn’t have lasted ten minutes living with my brother.

It must hold alot of memories that she may feel are causing her from moving through her grieving process. I hope that she doesn't regret selling it so soon, they advise not to make any major moves within that first 12 months, although they also say that there is no 'timetable' for grief, everyone takes their own time-so who knows? I hope that she adjusts well over the next few weeks to her new surroundings.

I hope everything will work out for her, Glad she can move in with your sister but sometimes too much closeness doesn't work out, I wish her all the best, She must want to get away from the memories,

If she wants to sell it & move in with your sister then that's her life to do as she please's right? I would love to have a place like that but we lost our chances of moving, we're pretty much stuck.

It is good she is moving while she can make the choice and no one else is making it for her.

She probably will be. I guess they get along..and now they also have an instant babysitter. I sincerely don't know what is going to happen when one of my parents passes away. They are on the list of an assisted living program..but so far they have passed on the openings that have been offered. I don't really think living with sis or I would be an option for either.

At least your mom won't be alone. Glad that it was all done quickly.

It is a pity you yourself couldn't have bought it..but maybe that is not an option for you for one reason or another Chicaa.

I hope she will be happy with your sister. Houses that are in good condition sell really fast.

I am sure she will be happy in her new digs, and hopefully she got a good penny for the house to help have some fun.
