Cold Wolf Moon

God's handiwork shot by me

The temperature dropped last night drastically. A homeless guy sat at the broken down picnic table out here freezing. Said he was waiting for a ride. I didn't believe him. I don't think anyone was coming for him. Before I went back inside though, I captured this cold moon above our sardine can apartments. Beauty is found in the most dreadful of places. Did you manage to catch a glimpse of the cold wolf moon?

@RebeccasFarm glad he got picked up, that's a relief. Btw what kind of camera do you use for your photos? Just something generic or you have a specific preference?

Too much fog and mist and drizzle to see anything like a moon or stars. Supposed to be better next week.

Poor guy at the picnic table - I hope he found somewhere warmer to go. I love the moon when the clouds are about - give me a certain "feel" - a sort of Halloweenish coolness.

Yes, I am a sky gazer and I did see the wolf moon. But I wonder why it is called " wolf moon".

I am so glad you saw it..here is some of the reasons why it is called Wolf Moon. Cultural: Native American origins: Some Native American tribes, like the Algonquin, called the January full moon the "Moon after Yule" or the "Moon Before Ice Moon," but others, like the Cree and Sioux, used names that referred to wolves. The Cree called it the "Freezing Moon" or "Hard Moon," while the Sioux called it the "Moon of the Wolves Running Together." These names likely reflect the fact that wolves are more active and vocal in the colder months, as they hunt for food and strengthen their social bonds. Image of Algonquin tribeOpens in a new window Algonquin tribe European traditions: European cultures also have names for the January full moon that refer to wolves. In Old English, it was called the "Wolfmonat," and in some parts of Europe, it is still called the "Wolf Moon" or the "Wolf Howling Moon." These names may have originated from the belief that wolves were more likely to howl at the moon during the winter, when food was scarce. Natural: Wolf behavior: Wolves are more likely to howl in the winter for a few reasons. First, the colder weather makes it easier for their howls to travel long distances. Second, wolves use howling to communicate with each other, and they may howl more often in the winter to stay in touch with their pack members and defend their territory. Finally, some scientists believe that wolves may howl more in the winter as a way to relieve stress or boredom.

Yes it was very cold outside. Usually I say nothing to them, but I thought to myself, here is a human being that is so cold. I wanted to make him a hot drink and bring it..but I thought better of it, as it can be dangerous, sadly. He was not bothering anyone.
