Glass Food Containers vs Plastic Food Containers

When I was growing up, all our condiments were in glass jars. Our pop (soda) was also in glass bottles which we had to pay a deposit on at the checkout and then got that money back when we returned the bottles. I do not remember exactly when they started changing containers to plastic. There are still some glass containers in the stores, but most are plastic. In some states, plastic pop bottles are returnable like glass bottles used to be. Tin cans, or aluminum cans as they are properly called have always been out there in the stores. Pop in aluminum cans taste like the aluminum. In plastic containers it is okay, but it never has tasted so good as it did in those glass bottles.
Do you prefer glass or plastic for your food containers?

Things taste better in the glass items, for sure. I realize people object to the plastic because so much ends up in the ocean, but I recycle the plastic I use. I do understand not wanting to have plastic at all though. As for plastic containers like Cool Whip and other food items, I wash those suckers out, and use them as containers for leftovers. They don’t go to waste.

I have glass Pyrex dishes with plastic/rubber type lids for leftovers. I love them. They can be easily labeled and put in the freezer, etc. as well as the dishwasher if needed. The plastic containers we do get, such as for sherbet, Cool Whip, cottage cheese, etc. get washed in the dishwasher and put in a small cabinet just for that. Those are the containers that my son takes back and forth with food in them, or the other kids use to take home cookies, goodies from mom, etc. Sometimes, they make their way back to me, and sometimes, they end up in the taker's recycle bin, but they do get used or disposed of properly.

@MarieCoyle I love the Pyrex and Anchor Hocking containers with plastic lids. The lids get damaged from time to time, and I just order replacements on Amazon.

I have ordered the lids once, too. I did discover if I wash the lids by hand rather than the dishwasher, they last a lot longer, so I do that. But those containers keep things so nice and fresh, I love them.

When I was young, well over 50 years ago, even then my mom preferred to drink out of glass glasses, saying plastic tasted "off". I prefer glass containers. Now they are finding plastic microparticles in everything.

I like glass but they don't do well after there dropped
so plastic is good, but it holds the germs from the food
that's put in them if they aren't bleached really good.
