Save the Sauce!

As things tend to go in the Porwest household, nothing goes to waste. It's a rule. And that being said, often when I make Salisbury steaks or the On-Cor riblets, there's always going to be some sauce left over. I keep it and use it for another dish. Last night for dinner I baked some pork steaks and drizzled the riblet sauce on them to cook with them while they baked. For sides we had buttered Parmesan rice and steamed broccoli with some Miracle Whip drizzled on it. Trust me, I know it may not sound appealing, but I have been eating broccoli that way since I was a kid and it NEVER gets old. Pardon the little drizzle of Miracle Whip on my pork steak. That was unintentional. But it did not ruin anything either. What went on your dinner table last night?

We had salmon for dinner, with a dill sauce and bulgur as side dish. Bulgur goes well with the sauces.

Suddenly I am drawing a blank on what bulgar is. I know I have heard of it though. Salmon is one of my favorites.

@LadyDuck Ah. Yes. I can even picture it now. I am definitely familair with that. I never really use it, but I know what it is.

@porwest I like it more than the cous cous, it's more firm.

I just prepared a simple dish tonight - scrambled eggs with onions.

That sounds very good. Are you trying to rub it in just because you have eggs and I don't?

Yesterday I cooked venison steaks with gravy, mashed potatoes, and corn. Today I cooked crab alfredo which was also yummy. We'll have those leftovers tomorrow. One day last week I made a big pot of chicken rice soup. Dale said it was the best I had made. Maybe my cooking skills are returning after this past year of not cooking much. Unfortunately, desserts are proving hard to duplicate.

Gosh. All of that sounds good to me. I imagine chicken rice soup is made similar to chicken noodle?

@porwest I think it's similar to chicken noodle soup. I boil the chicken pieces, take them out when done, strain the water, add salt, pepper, chopped onions, chopped celery, carrots, and chicken broth.

Broccoli with Miracle Whip doesn't sound bad to me. I love broccoli and have been known to drizzle a tiny amount of blue cheese dressing on mine. Tonight I'm making a pork tenderloin which is marinating in a brown sugar rub. We'll have it with mashed potatoes and broccoli

@porwest broccoli is my favorite vegetable and we eat it practically every night along with a second vegetable. I also like mine with butter (pretty traditional), with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, with a drizzle of blue cheese dressing and my all time favorite is breaded and fried.(not the healthiest). Since I don't have Miracle Whip would Mayonnaise work the same?

It is one of those things over the years I have found very few people who eat their broccoli this way. My mom always put it on our broccoli and I am not sure where she got the idea from. My wife had never heard of it before she met me and now she only eats it that way when we make it steamed like this. I think many people are just unsure of it which is why so many people turn their nose up, mostly, at the idea. Your pork tenderloin sounds like it will be amazing.

@Marilynda1225 I don't know if I have ever eaten broccoli fried, but there is no reason I can find that it would not be delicious. I love broccoli. I'll even eat it raw dipped in ranch dressing or French onion dip. Yummy stuff. I would think mayonnaise would work just fine, although of course it would have a bit less flavor since Miracle Whip is tangier and has more seasonings in it.

Your meal looks good, though I am not a fan of Miracle Whip. Last night was leftovers for us.

@porwest I will use mayonnaise sparingly. I really don't care for it either. I am a mustard fan. You're right people are pretty set on one or the other.

@Dena91 For me when it comes to which condiment I prefer, it usually depends on what I am using it for. Of course, that's probably stating the obvious. lol

For whatever reason, when I talk to people it is either Miracle Whip or real mayonnaise and usually not both. I personally have never liked mayonnaise finding it to be too bland. I like the zing of Miracle Whip. But it is definitely a love it or hate it kind of a thing.

Everything sounds good except for the Miracle Whip. I can eat broccoli plain. It's so good. I had some leftover DQ chicken planks and fries. Have a good day.

I can eat it plain too. But I still prefer the Miracle Whip on it. I like the zing it adds.

Delicious. I made a batch of vegetable soup a couple of weeks ago. Never can go wrong with that. Although mine was a beef vegetable soup.

I was with you until you got to the Miracle Whip. That chemical concoction is a complete turn-off for me Luckily I don't think it exists over here.

The UK is probably too posh for tangy Miracle Whip.
