It strikes me as odd

I know there is a scientific explanation, but in spite of have temperatures between 60 and 70 degrees F.There are still big patches of snow beside the road and in the fields. Of course, some of it is because it drifted high in places, other places it was scooped high, and the ground underneath has been remaining cold keeping the snow from melting. I am thankful that by yesterday, Friday, it had melted off the street in front of the school. No risking walking on ice. So February started off really nice here. No guarantee it will stay that way.

We still have some spots of snow where it drifted or was plowed and dumped in a pile. I noticed yesterday evening that there is still some on the sides of the interstate here and there as well. I would have thought it would have completely melted by now.

@GardenGerty Very strange, indeed. Today was cloudy and 41. But we had a wind that made it seem a lot colder.

We got up close to 70. It is cooling off again, though.

@GardenGerty The polar vortex is supposed to invade us again at some point. Brrrrr. Enjoy your day.

It certainly did start off nicely. I do hope Oklahoma gets some more cold, but I don’t mind what we have now.

It is from the cold it puts out from being packed together. It will melt soon.

It did melt and soak in. I am glad for the moisture for next growing season.

Let's hope February stays nice for you. When we have frosts here, sometimes the ice will remain in shady spots for a lot longer than you would expect it to.

MN winters are legendary and people were keen to tell me that one year the municipal snow dump didn't melt until July! Cold things can stay cold surprisingly well though. I once spent a week on a boat on the Red Sea. It didn't have any electrical refrigeration, just a wooden chest where they put blocks of ice. It kept the food cool all week, even in the hot Egyptian sun!

It was a good cooler chest. I think that would have been interesting. It sounds like the "iceboxes" my grandparents used.
