My next 'long-term' project

In the photo you can see my next project. This is a long-term one; very long-term iin fact as I must have started this some 40 years ago. It’s a Hobbytex table-cloth. The linen used in their items is very good quality so it’s worth finishing this. I still have the round piece that you need to secure the cloth while you’re working on it and I’ve now found a Hobbytex supplier about 20 minutes away from me. Luckily, the only colour I need is black. The photo quality isn’t the best. The cloth is actually a bright, clear red. What you see is the only section I have done so I have a lot of work ahead of me.

That sounds lovely. I have a long tablecloth that I did before I was married. I put it into my hope chest and we still use it on occasion. I should do a smaller one for our son's table, I think that they would like that.

Do you a Hobbytex cloth? It was all the rage for a while.

@JudyEv I am not familiar with Hobbytex, I thought it was a name brand. I have done stamped embroidery. In fact I really enjoyed it, but now I will have to research Hobbytex cloth.

@JudyEv Actually, I just looked it up. We used to refer to it as liquid embroidery. My grandmother used to cut up the cotton flour bags, hem them and bleach them and then do an iron on transfer on them and ask me to do the liquid embroidery on them. I was very young at that time, about 5 or 6 years old, and there are still traces of some of that permanent paint on some of the leaves of the dining room table, which I somehow inherited years ago.

@JudyEv I thought that "extended" applied to the table.

I should finish it. I think it will be the right size for my table when it's extended (the table, that is, not the tablecloth).

My only "project" right now is getting the tubes back into one of my amplifiers. That looks like a cool project.

Well, looks like you'll have to want to sit still long enough to get that done one day ....... it's pretty though.

I am sure that this project will keep you busy for a while. I think I remember my mother doing something like this when I was a kid, olive green because it matched the refrigerator and stove we had at the time.

They had some very nice items that you could buy and paint - pillow-cases, toaster/appliance covers, cushions, etc.

Surprised they haven't been taken over or gone out of business. Guess you'll have a new tablecloth soon... ish!

I was quite sure the company would have been long gone. I was surprised to discover you can buy the goods online from the company but then I found a local supplier so it looks like it's alive and well. Tupperware is still going strong too i think. .
