Mansfield Texas Police Department Officer Chad Stevens was in the right place at the right time on Thursday when he came to the assistance of a female driver named Samantha who did give out her last name was behind the wheel when she started to choke on gum that she swallowed while she was driving on Interstate 20. Samantha managed to get the attention of Officer Stevens due to the fact that she had her hazard lights flashing as well as driving in an odd manner on the interstate. Officer Stevens had to use the Heimlich maneuver about four times before the piece of chewing gum that was inside of Samantha was taken out of her body. Since Samantha was okay health wise, she was free to travel to her destination grateful that Officer Stevens using his first aid training to save Samantha's life. Link is weau.com/2024/02/02off...

Officer Stevens was in the right place at the right time to help that driver. That could have turned out so differently.

Very scary indeed. A person shouldn't swallow chewing gum and now we see why.

I have heard of stories of drivers choking behind the wheel from heart problems but not chewing gum.

That would have been very scary for a while. Officer Stevens would have been getting worried about whether the Heimlich manoeuvre was going to work.

It did concern Officer Stevens to get the chewing gum out of Samantha's body since it took him at least four tries.

Lucky somebody who knew what to do was able to help her here. It is not a good idea to chew gum while driving, as all focus should be on the driving. She was lucky not to have been charged for hazardous driving, and for not being properly/fully in control of a motor vehicle.

That is very true since Samantha admitted that she was scared by another driver who cut in front of her when she began to choke on her gum on the interstate,
