That could've gone better.

George and I are back from the doctor's office and grocery store. All went well for the most part until we were leaving Winn-Dixie. We stopped at the store on the way home to pick up some goodies we could use for meals. Needless to say, the trip itself went well. George knew where he was going, and we grabbed ourselves some things to try. Trouble started after I called our last ride home. It was starting to drop, it'd been overcast all day, and the driver didn't want to help us get groceries in his vichel. He wanted George to do it. When George seemingly refused, the guy said 'forget it' told me to get away from his car and basically drove off. I now have to pay a cancel ride fee, twice, because of that idiot.

I’d be calling the ride service and raising a BIG stink about that. If it was a cab company you can notify the city because taxis are licensed by the city (or county or state).

They also only take cash, so I don't use taxi services. While it does bother me, it's more the treatment of the driver to us, and while I could complain, I don't think I will. I may not like how he acted, but I do know George can be hard to understand sometimes if he does speak because of the stroke. Plus, he may have wanted the driver to put my chair in, first, and then have George put our things around it... I don't know. I was able to get another ride, and did not accept that driver after his treatment of us when I rescheduled. Things like this don't happen often thank god.

@FourWalls Yeah, there's that, too. I still had to do a tube feed and things when we got home. George is resting now.

@kaylachan — I would have complained to stop the next George and Kayla from being treated that way. You’re a saint, my dear.

I don’t know what service you used, but to get them to waive the cancellation fee, would it be worth it to call, explain about the stroke, and get your money back? Because that wasn’t your fault in any way.

I'll think about it. George is amazing and does well most of the time.

Sorry you had to go through all that trouble, At least you finally did get home, I hope things improve with time and George can do more of the things he should do. Of course, that driver was a real idiot and should have helped you. I wonder if he still would have been so stupid if he had seen you all alone,

I don't think he would've. But, then had I been alone, I wouldn't have tried to do some shopping.

@kaylachan some drivers can be idiots but there are those you can talk to. When you need a ride again perhaps mention the trouble you have so they ar prepared to help you when they pick up. When I first got to Florida and realized I would have to get rides to store (at the time I had some extra money I could use) I remember having a driver drop me off at a Publix, I told him that I would be calling back in about an hour and would need a big car to load up a lot of groceries. No problem he was back when I called, had a station wagon, and helped me load up and unload at home,

That's outrageous. Was that a taxi? I would complain about your treatment, explain the problem and threaten to report them for disability discrimination. And ask them to waive the cancellation fee. Hope you managed to get home without any more drama.

@Fleura They shouldn't. But, Uber is run by "partners" who basically make their own work schedules and stuff. Literally anyone with a smart phone and car can drive for them.

It was Uber, not a taxi. I can't afford to use cabs, because you have to pay in cash.

I've had a pretty good run with Uber so far. I'm not going to stop using them unless stuff like this keeps happening. George and I are home.

I see this is Uber. Do you have an option to rate the driver in the app? Others deserve to know that this can happen.

Because I had to cancel the ride, I wasn't given the option to rate the driver. But, no rating from me is just as damaging as a one-star rating.

That is such a rude way of treating anyone, I am sorry that you experienced this. I do hope that you can get credit for that fee.

I can't refuse to pay something that's auto-deducted from my credit card. I can dispute the charge, and get my money back, but sometimes I don't think it's worth the trouble.

Uber only shows a photo and first name on both ends to keep things private. No actual phone number is visible, just a 'call driver' phone icon.

@TheHorse Yes. Uber keeps a log of all the rides or orders I place. It h has the actual address and the date and time I asked for the first second and third ride.

George's stroke happened four months ago. The facal droop is not even noticeable unless someone was looking for it. He physically looks fine. So, it's invisible. Hell, he was chatting away with someone he knew in the store, and kept calling his stroke his 'accident', and not even the guy he talked to knew. He admitted getting worried about him because he hadn't seen us in the store in a while.

I didn't have to pay for the ride that never happened, and I paid the fee only because the incident happened after he arrived, and he was stupid enough not to cancel.
