The finished painting of the lion..

Here is the finished painting of the lion. I wanted to make sure I finished it today so that I can show it to Paul when he comes round tomorrow. But that means I may have rushed it a bit and not done the beet job of it. The first thing I did was paint some raw umber on the left side of the mane, then a large streak in the middle and some smaller bits at the bottom of the right hand side. I also painted raw umber around the ear. Then I painted the top of the left side of the mane with raw umber and a little bit of yellow ochre. The part of the mane directly above the head which is lighter I did with yellow ochre and I did the face with yellow ochre too but later I decided it was too bright and tried to dull it down with some raw sienna. I pained the nose so that it gradually went from the lighter colour to the darker colour. When that was dry I started to do some lighter contrasting strokes of yellow ochre on areas that were painted with raw sienna. I painted the bit just under the face with yellow ochre and white. Then I added a few darker bits here and there. I did lighter bits on the bottom right. When that was dry I did the eye and nose, going around the areas first in black, then putting in the black part of the eye and the black nostril. When that was dry I painted the coloured part of the eye in yellow ochre and I put a white dot for the highlight. I painted the nose with scarlet, raw umber and a little bit of white. I added the shaded areas around the eyes and muzzle area, the large area of dark that goes from the eyes to the mouth, and I did the hairs on his chin in pure white. I went over all the areas of mane agaIn. I noticed that the top left area of mane seemed to have gone a funny green colour where the colours had mixed, so I went over that agaIn with some raw sienna and yellow ochre to try and get rid of the green. I propped the painting up against the back of my chair and stood back to look at it, then I went back and adjusted anything that needed to be adjusted. When I thought the painting was finished, or as close as I was going to get, I signed it in the left corner. Not that you can see it because of the dark paint! So that's my lion painting finished. I'm not completely satisfied with the mane, I think it looks too clumpy with not enough individual hairs showing. What have you lot been getting up to today? I hope you are all well. Have a great night.

Congratulations, this is beautiful. I think the mane looks very good and I also like how you designed his eyes and mouth. Very realistic painting.

Looks good. Don't worry about the mane, from this end it does not look clumpy, but rather like it is moving, which is nice and different! We laid in a bit, so I'm slow to get the day started. Lucky its Friday
