In order to produce a quart of olive oil. You need to press 11 pounds of olives. The seeds of apples are poison. But chewing a few is ok. The avocado is named for its shape. Salmon are in saltwater and they go go into fresh water. Most blueberries in North America come from Maine. During World War II garlic was used as an antiseptic. A ginger root is related to the iris flower. 1 honey bee only produces 1/12 of a tablespoon of honey over its lifetime.

In some areas garlic is still used as an antiseptic. It also is used as a worm medication for your dogs and cats. I use it rather than the worm pills that you can get either from the vet or the pet store. I had a dog with worms and the worm medication just wouldn't get rid of them, but when I gave him two squashed cloves of garlic his worms were cleared up in less than two weeks. I gave him the first dose and waited a week and there was a noticeable decrease in the worms, so I gave him the second dose about a week later. He was totally cleared up by the end of the second week. I waited about two weeks and checked his poop, and it was totally clear of worms, but I gave him a precautionary dose anyhow. His worms were totally cleared up, and he would nag me for garlic constantly for the rest of his life, which was a long and worm free life. I use a lot of herbs and roots in treating various health problems. Like nausea and a painful stomach, I take ginger for that, and it really does a good job of controlling that problem. I still need to find the replacements for my root and herb books that I lost when my house burned down. A lot of the replacement books are really difficult to find, and I do a lot of searching online and have found quite a few of them and I sure won't give up on finding them. You get some really good and useful information. Thank you for sharing your information with us, I didn't know about the honey bee's production of honey. I'm horribly allergic to bee stings, so I don't think about honey and its production.

@jstory07 I check the online used bookstores. The local ones went out of business. I was checking my books and found one that is herbal remedies for cats and dogs. Needless to say, I will be cruising through it for information to help out the cats. It isn't too often that I don't have my nose buried in a book on one subject or another. The herbal remedy books have helped me find out that ginger helps settle your stomach when it is so upset from stress. I am currently going through a very stressful time, and all the books that I have are really helping me out, and I am going through them right now for patterns for miniature bunnies for Easter, both hand sewn and crocheted. I also am finding patterns to base miniature teddy bears on to hand sew to sell both online and hopefully in a consignment shop locally. Working on the handmade critters really helps my nerves and keeps me calmed down a lot. Like I have said in a previous posting, I am planning to post pictures of my finished critters for everyone to enjoy. I am hoping to get a bunch of them done for a Christmas craft show coming up in November of this year. It would be really nice to have a good stock of bears and other critters to display for people to view and purchase. I do have to THANK YOU for the suggestion about checking used book stores. I had one I totally loved locally, but it closed down quite awhile ago, and I miss it horribly. I really hope that I will find the books I am looking for online. Again, thank you for the suggestion.

That's interesting that an avocado is named for its shape. No wonder we need a lot of bees.

That last fact just reinforces the urgency to keep bee killing insecticides out of circulation.

I like fun facts! Another fun salmon fact, they change color. Juvenile sockeye salmon are light colored and spotted, and during their adult years in the ocean, they are silvery blue. When it’s time to spawn, the adult bodies turn a brilliant red and their heads turn green.
