One of My Worst Fears

Monday morning about 10"30a. a 4.9 magnitude earthquake was reported about 10 miles north of Smiith Ferry which is about 44 miles north of Boise. No damage was reported and very few people even felt it. We haven't had any quakes since March 31, 2020. That was a 6.5 magnitude quake that struck northwest of Stanley which is in mid-Idaho. My worst fear is that that Maga one will happen and if it does we are all done.

Me too. The area I live in is subject to a MAGA earthquake that has been predicted any time.

@celticeagle Oh no. I live near mountains like Mount Rainer and Mount St. Helens- as the crow flies, anyway.

We have pretty many small quakes here. I always have "the big one" in the back of my mind.

Earthquakes can happen at any time compared to hurricanes and tornadoes which the authorities do issue warnings to take action when the storm will pass through.

@celticeagle That is true since I have seen the television news reports of the events about earthquakes.

I’m not too far from the New Madrid Fault Line, which caused earthquakes so severe in 1811-12 that the Mississippi River ran backwards. You’re in a “volcanic” area, which is not the case for the New Madrid, so it would be completely different damage. I’m not holding my breath for the “big one” (we had some kook say there was going to be a massive eruption on the New Madrid on December 3, 1989…and he, as usual, was wrong). But honestly, I think there’s no such thing as being “accustomed” to an earthquake unless you live in California where they happen all the time.

That Madrid area sounds scary. There is no way of knowing for sure when the MAGA one will happen. The experts don't know for sure but say it could be anytime. We are due.

Earthquakes are always scary. A 6.5 is a big quake. I'm worried about Yellowstone. Have a good day.

Glad you are all right, You can imagine how I felt the few times when I lived in NYC that I felt my apartment building shake and the floor move. It all happened very fast and quickly but I always thought if the earthquake got big what about all those skyscrapers in Manhattan?

I recall two earthquakes here in the Boise area. Once when I was about 8 years old and the other when my third husband and I lived in a big apartment on the other side of town. I was sitting on the couch and the floor lamp began to sway and I jumped up to keep it from falling over. What an experience. It didn't last long but was prettysevere.
