Here is the finished painting of the flowers. In my last post I'd finished the background and just started on the flowers themselves. When that was dry I got out my palette knives and began on the flowers. I used gamboge for the top of each flower, graduating to orange at the bottom. I put the paint on nice and thick! I used a lot of lemon yellow on the bud on the right, and then at the top I used more gamboge and orange. Some of the paint accidentally got onto the background that was already painted. Some of it I managed to scrape off with a finger nail before it dried, but some of it I couldn't remove so I had to mix up some more background colour and paint over the mistakes! When most of the flowers were dry I used my new size 00000 brush to add accents here and there. Then I got onto the butterfly in the top left corner. I painted it all in first with gamboge. Then when that was dry and added the pattern on with a mixture of burnt umber and black and some raw sienna. Then I added a mix of lemon yellow and white to certain areas. I added a dob of the lemon yellow/white mixture to the head where the light is catching. And then I called it finished. It looks a bit shiny on the picture because the paint was still wet when I took the photo. Anyway, what have you lot been getting up to today? I hope you are all well. Have a great night.
