You’re welcome.
Since my favorite version of this song dates to the Bailes Brothers in 1946, I could just torture the heck out of you with some real country music. No, I’ll give you a more listenable (for most people) version in today’s celebration of living songs.
As Long As I Live - George Jones & Gene Pitney
Linda? NO!!! I know that says “Gene Pitney” (yes, that Gene Pitney) but he was straight-up country on these duets with George Jones.
And heck, it’s a Roy Acuff song (although Acuff didn’t record it until the 50s), so that should tell you that this would be a hillbilly headache!!!
I love the Bailes Brothers version. And the Roy Acuff version. And the Red Foley & Kitty Wells version. But I do have an obligation to prevent disease, and that includes earaches and migraines from songs that are “too country.”
Truth be told, I love this version, too. Pitney did a very credible job singing country music with George Jones. (The hairstyles sure don’t match, though, do they?
)
Yeah, you’re welcome.

If I ever do the 100 favorites list, you’ll see Pitney on it. I think they did a great job of this.

@FourWalls I did add the song to my Classic Country Spotify playlist, but not the version with Pitney. I just added the Jones solo version.

I love Gene Pitney. What a strange combo. Have a good day. Are you on your way home?

Bah, what do you know, I am home.
And this isn’t nearly as weird as Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones doing the Everly Brothers tribute.

@FourWalls B J Armstrong and Norah Jones doing Everly Brothers? Only the Everlys can do the Everlys.

I’ve greatly enjoyed this song for a long time. The good thing about this version is that it sounds country, but they didn’t “over-modernize” it.

Oh, I’m shocked! Oh, I’m surprised! Oh, I’m kidding.
