Would you let others hire your pets?

This is a post inspired by rebelann1949's post. So her dog Roscoe is a handful. At my end, one of the flat owners has usurped public property for parking, and others keep their vehicles adjacent to his, effectively occupying half the road. Because of this, I find it difficult to pull out my car. So I could hire a dog like Roscoe, to keep anybody from parking on public road, leading to problems in driving apart from inconvenience of pulling out my car. Does your pet have some ability which can be of great help to somebody else? And if so, would you let that person hire your pet?

I never had a dog, but I do not believe I would have let someone hire my pet.

Why so? If the other person was as likely to take care of the dog as you, and actually needed it...and well, if the money came handy for looking after the pet in old age. After all, pets cost. We shouldn't have to put them to sleep. If a person had a pet like a horse, he or she wouldn't mind giving it for hire, so why not dogs?

@LindaOHio What if Dogs and cats could be given to friends or known people, for any help they needed. Trained for such help. And in return small amounts were credited to their account in their end of life stay and care, instead of putting them to sleep. Somehow, the put them to sleep concept shakes me up.

If I trusted the person to take good care of them I might. I know it would be good for Patch border collie to be working at herding animals

Good care vs. fear of shift in loyalty? Do dogs get confused with too many masters? I don't think so...but we can't say.

@wolfgirl569 You would think that is complex dynamics to tackle by human standards...good thing they cannot carry tales sprinkled with spices when they are made to behave. LOL.

I don´t think that Luna has any ability that would make her good enough for a real job. Still, I would not hire her. I do know a dog who works though but she is not paid. Andrés (Dixie´s son who lives in Australia) has a dog called Sombra. Sombra was trained there as a companion for old people in hospitals and she goes to work every day. But I don´t think that she is paid. I could ask Ruthie though (Andrés´s wife).

That is very interesting. I did hear that dogs can be trained for old people and blind people. I wish they would be "paid", so that they can have better life.

My late cat, Precious, seems to know when my blood sugar was low or when trimmers might start. I wouldn't share that ability with anyone. I doubt anyone would believe he knew those things.

I don't own any pet but working dogs are usually accompanied by their trainers, so they'd have to hire the both of us. I think placing some obstacles or bribing some local officers would be cheaper in your case. Back during Covid times it seemed like dogs were "hired" to have an excuse to go outside, for a walk. Or maybe it was just a joke I read somewhere, but you know... the world is full of surprises. In The Sims 2 you could really find your pets a job instead, a car would come pick them up etc.

What if it earned them enough for better medical treatment?

@jstory07 Funny, don't you think? We let our kids take up employment. We are fine with that. But if our pets earn something, we would not be. I would spare my dog if he was capable of helping somebody. I would want an end of life care facility for all pets. The amount would go towards his end of life care. I would never put my pet to sleep. I would feel happy he had some money for vets who would ease his pain, which I neither understand nor know how to do something about it. Of course, I would also be contributing. But this earning can definitely come handy if major surgery or treatment was needed.

Kitty thinks she is a model. I'd hire her out as such only if there were big dollars in it for me and endless wet food for her.
