Okay, This Is A Really Weird One

Normally I might post something like this in my "Music You've Probably Never Heard" series. But that is generally reserved for songs I at least like. Albeit some are still weird, perhaps. But the key is they are songs I enjoy listening to, that reside on a playlist on Spotify that I listen to often. This would not be such a song. I came across this guy during one of my many travels through the World Wide Web (do they even call it that anymore?). His back story is rather interesting, if not to say the guy is more than a bit of a spectacle and strange—well, he was. He died in 2022 at age 67. His name is Richard Benson. He was a renowned Italian guitarist in his hay day, only to be racked by debilitating arthritis, and eventually fell off, or jumped off a bridge (some say it was a suicide attempt) and became more disabled after that. Despite his inability to play guitar like he could, he continued to perform, becoming a bit of a joke. Audiences would throw yogurt and eggs and even raw chickens and bags of flour at him on stage, and he would just keep on "performing" despite what came at him. This song, "I Nani," is best described as haunting and weird. I have no idea what he is singing since it is in Italian. But I have to admit, having been exposed to some very interesting music, this one really stands out as one of the strangest things I have ever encountered.

I’ve heard of audiences throw stuff at musicians, but never heard of them throwing chickens. Video is a bit freaky.

I joked on one of the videos either he was a glutton for punishment, or he needed ingredients for a stew. lol

@porwest I don´t mind calling myself an ol´ witch at this time of my life. I find it better that being a senior. But it all depends on how it is said. I don´t have a black cat, I´m a dog lover witch. And I stay away from brooms; I have Anita to clean my house.

I've seen some very odd so called music reels when scrolling that I wonder how in the world are they getting gigs to sing. This guy might have made it in this time but not back then.

Interestingly enough, that one video in particular has 3.1 million views, which is impressive considering what it is, and what it lacks. Crazier things happen.

@porwest Sorry! The hanging chicken/turkey at the beginning put me off. Thanks. One of the railing/step people will be seeing me this weekend. Other than that waiting to see my hubby on Monday.

Mr. Benson gives new meaning to the phrase, "the show must go on." Well, I like the scenery leading up to the witch and the song. I noticed he has a stutter.. I Nani...

@porwest Yes, taking artistic expression to a "whole new weird level."

In a weird way, and I emphasize the word weird, that damn I Nani chant is stuck in my head. As for his glasses, it's like he got them from the Dollar Tree and just stuck some creative tin foil on them. The piece in the center isn't even centered, which just adds to the whole bizarre nature of the whole thing. The entire video is something you simply cannot unsee, and there's just so much going on there. The lips. The teeth. The glasses. The chant. The sword cane. The sneakers. lol

I don't listen to such off the wall crap like this cause it's just that crap, I listen to music that has meaning to it like country oldies the 70's into the 80's & that's as far as I go with some DECENT music, not all like country music but that's how our relationship stayed together for as long as it has for us.

I am the first to admit I have rather broad and eclectic tastes in music. But even this one is a bit...too much for me. Although, in an odd way that "I Nani" chant is stuck in my head, with those horrible teeth in my mind, and neither of that is in a good way, mind you.

It's what one of those, "What the hell did I just see?" kinda things right alongside, "And how do I now unsee it? Because I am having trouble unseeing it." lol
